Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

What is your doodle's personality more like? A Poodle, or (fill in the blank)...?

Hello everyone. I'm glad to be back on here again. I haven't been on here in a while because I haven't really had a need to be (which is good!), and college started back up.

Orwell is rather unremarkable as far as behavior goes right now. He still needs lots of exercise, but is a cuddle bug. He has a best friend (a standard poodle) that we play with a couple times a week. He also had his 1 year shots and check up. He is perfectly normal and healthy.

Anyway... the real reason for this thread is that I've been curious about how other people identify their doodle's personality. Since these are mixed breeds, I was wondering if you consider your doodle more like a poodle or whatever the other breed they are crossed with is (lab, golden, berne, etc.)

As for Orwell, I definitely identify him more as a poodle. I say that mainly because he prefers me over anyone else and is my constant companion. He's really nice to new people when he meets them, but after about 30 seconds he could care less about them. He's not like a lab were everyone he meets is his new best friend. I don't mind this at all, though, because it makes me feel special. :P

Now, it's your guys' turn to share. :)

Roo, looks more like a poodle, being a little rangier and with the deep poodle chest, but he is a retriever in mind and soul: bone and ball obessed, greats everyone like his new best friend and is eager to please.

Tigger had a body that is more like the ALD ideal, stocky, sturdy, square.  Tigger is people friendly, but like Orwell after an initial hello, he wanders off to see what else is going on.  Somewhere in his gene mix is a strong nose component as Tigger will follow a scent trail obsessively, which interferes with his recall way too often.

I love them both although brothers they are so different, just like my children.

I have had both miniature poodles and Golden Retriievers and love them both very much for different reasons. I am pleased that I get the best of both worlds with my Doodles!
Lucy is definitely more Golden-like. She follows me everywhere and sticks so close that sometimes I can't find her because she is standing so close, even at the dog park. She wants nothing more out of life than for someone, anyone, to pet her and love on her.
Daphne is F1b and definitely looks and acts more like a poodle. She is very high energy, very vocal and does not take crap from even the biggest dogs she knows (ask Bruin..lol). She is built more like a poodle with very tiny "poodle bones" and a finicky poodle eater. Still, she does have the more loving affectionate Golden side as well. She is a "present giver" and sometimes it's funny to watch her try to find something, if there is nothing within reach.
Pippa is also F1b but other than her size and tiny bones there is not much poodle there. She loves to play with my daughters full size Golden and she does a good job at holding her own even though Lyla outweighs her by 30 lbs. She plays very much like a Golden. She can catch a frisbee or anything you throw in her direction. My other two just try to get out of the way if I throw something their way. If I throw a treat, Daphne will let it hit her in the head and then eat it off the ground. Like Daphne, Pippa is a present giver but I think that is just something she learned from Daphne. Pippa is a follower and is often led astray by Daphne or sometimes she will follow Lucy and is better behaved..lol. Very much like my previous Golden, Pippa would never wander away on her own. She sticks pretty close by if not following Daphne.

Not sure where to put Libby!  Libby is very loyal, loving, so laid back and easy going.  She gives us love like no other dog has ever given us and adores every member of our family.  Maybe the lab comes out when she protects this house!  We call her our neighborhood watch dog!  She sits in the front room window and lets us know when anyone or any animal is within fifteen feet of our home!  She is playful, silly, goofy and loves to be with our granddaughters.  She would play fetch 24/7 if we let her and she is the BEST companion ever!  I cannot even put into words the love this girl has brought to us and our family.

Split personality!  He is loyal and tolerant as a Golden but often that Poodle stubbornness comes out!

There's a lot of poodle in this doodle. He has a labby build, and a deep lab bark, but his personality is more like a poodle, I think. He's happy, bouncy, kind and tolerant to all people but he can be reserved until he makes a connection.  He's very intuitive, always thinking, loyal to a fault, and STUBBORN sometimes.  He won't deliberately disobey but he can make it very clear he feels we should renegotiate the terms of the command.  He loves to be hugged by me and kids and wherever I go, there he is :)

LOL, I love "he can make it very clear he feels we should renegotiate the terms of the command."
Or as I always said of my late great Miniature Poodle Pawla's attitude toward obeying commands, "What's in it for me?"

LOL now I know it's the poodle gene for sure. I love the name Pawla :)

Isn't it a great name?

Oh, that is sooo much Winnie, too!  She often will get into a  "renegotiating mood" with the "Drop!" command. Trading the object (usually a sock) for a treat is often the only way I can get her to drop. Sometimes, she tries to take the treat out of my hand while she still has the sock in her mouth. Like she is thinking that I might not notice the sock still dandling from her mouth.... :-)

Orwell has a problem with socks, too. (: And Kleenex...

OOOOOOHHHHH that is Ned to a T!!!!  Love the name Pawla.

This is pretty much Orwell. One would think that if they are reserved with other people, they should be independent. Orwell is anything but independent, lol. :P Loyal to a fault is a good way to describe it.
