This article is about how the new TVs may improve your dog's ability to see the TV screen--and why some dogs can watch TV and others can't. My F1 sees anything with four legs on the screen and barks like crazy, while my multigens look around to see what the issue is!

Oh and by the way, make sure you scroll down to check out the picture of the Norwegian vet--what a hunk!!

OMG! What a cutie!!!   Oh and the Golden Retriever is cute too.

Exactly...

Our Murphy doesnt learn that it's not real and gets excited by animals on TV. (Strong instincts) Bella figures it out pretty quick when it doesn't respond to her, and she just walks away. But the both see and can identify that it's another animal apparently. Interesting article, thanks for sharing.

Guinness watches TV, Molly doesn't care.  They are full brother and sister but Guinness is obsessed, any animal that he sees.  But he has even jumped up and run to stand in front when there was only a stick figure drawing of an animal not moving.  I think he sees and understands much more then the other dogs.  Makes watching TV interesting and I am constantly cleaning nose prints off the screen.

We got a new smart TV just before we brought Charlie home in Feb 2011.  From the time he was a small puppy, he loved to sit in the leather chair and watch TV - initially sports with my DH.  As an adult, I find he associates the music with the ad.  Charlie can be in my office with me, my DH will be watching something on TV in the great room, and all of a sudden Charlie will take off like a shot and be in front of the TV just in time for the animal in the advertisement to pop up in front of him.  He remembers every ad that has a dog and loves to bark at them.  Beau on the other hand really could care less.  He follows Charlie to the TV, but then cocks his head give one woof and lays down on his pillow watching Charlie react to the Ad.  Since so many ads have dogs in them, Charlie's behavior was driving me crazy.  So when I say "thank you" Doggy Dan style and if he ignores me, I give him a time out in the bathroom just around the corner for a minute.  This seems to work well, but the other night he took off running to the TV and Beau was right behind him and they both started barking at tv!  I said "thank you Charlie", he got right down - Beau did not.  I said Beau - do you want to go in the bathroom? He looked at me and went around the corner and into the bathroom.  I closed the door, he got a one minute self induced time out! LOL  That Beau is so much smarter than I give him credit for.

That is incredible!!! Smart doodles you have there!

IMO they both seem to be quite smart, but I have to admit, I talk to them like they are my children and when I am gone, usually my DH is here as we are both retired.  So needless to say, they are spoiled rotten!

Wow--so smart! My Mattie will run to the TV if we say "there's a doggie on TV!" but she does not recognize the songs!

That is amazing!

Ginny ~ I find it interesting too.  I can remember Charlie being about 3 months old and he was laying on the couch between my DH and I  we were watching a murder mystery.  I thought Charlie was looking at the tv occasionally, but when the murderer was stalking this girl on tv and the background music came on Charlie's whole body tensed up!  We have surround sound, but we do not have the volume turned way up.   I have never encouraged him to watch tv, actually I try to discourage it! LOL

Luca will watch TV and is a little less reactive to animals and animated figures than he used to be. Calla shows no interest whatsoever.

Roo has no interest in TV.  Tigger is fascinated by TV, especially animals.

My theory is that different dogs have different amounts of color vision and some can make out the shapes and see the animals and some can't--but no proof!
