Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My daughter started me looking at sheepadoodles, I have two goldendoodles and they are the best!  I've had Snickers now for 4 months and she is adorable.  Looking through a lot of posts there are many different opinions on the OES/poodle mix so I thought I would let anyone thinking about a sheepadoodle know how our experience is going.  Snickers is smart, learns everything very quickly.  She was house trained within a week or two of bringing her home.  She is crate trained and walks in a lays down when I tell her it's time for bed.  That being said she can be stubborn but I have taken her for training and she is responding well, her biggest thing was running if she got loose, she loves to be chased.  I have some very high value treats in bags by every door in my house and every time I call her she comes and gets a treat.  It has worked wonders!  No more running.  Her fur doesn't seem to mat as bad as my blond goldendoodle, although I am retired and they all get regular grooming at home.  She is very fun loving and gets along great with my grandkids.  OES do NOT herd by nipping heels, they herd by pushing and bumping so the nipping is not an issue.  She isn't as cuddly as my older dogs but my female goldendoodle wasn't cuddle at all until she was older so we will just wait and see.  She is fun, friendly, cute and smart.  I am considering training her as a therapy dog.  As far as the cute factor, people stop us on the street and strangers ask to take pictures of my dog.  She isn't a goldendoodle, but she is WONDERFUL and I love her!

She is beautiful.

Hi Linda ~ Snickers is sure a cutie.  We had an OES when our children were small - Max was not too smart, but he was off the charts sweet and good with the kids.  He never nipped at the kids either and at the time I did not think about the herding thing.  Interesting.  I noticed you are fairly new to the site.  You can download your photo directly into a discussion when you start it by clicking on the image icon which is to the right of the LINK icon here at the top of the discussion box.  BTW - welcome to this site.

Snickers sounds like a great pup.

Congratulations! Would love to see some pictures!

Sounds like Snickers is pretty perfect. Congrats!

Snickers is adorable. Glad to hear you are enjoying her. Yes, we need pictures and welcome.

Sheepadoodles are beautiful!    I've run across a couple and they were the softest coats ever!  Does Snickers shed at all?

Well she is only 6 1/2 months old so I'm not sure what her adult coat will be like.  Right now she sheds a little but not much.

Congratulations Linda! Snickers is gorgeous! I would love to see a Sheepadoodle in person. They look like great big sweethearts. :-)

I'll admit I'm not a fan of mixing poodles with all types of breeds but I do love OES and Snickers is adorable and sounds wonderful.  Sounds like she might make a great therapy dog. I had a Bearded Collie before getting my ALD and the kids are always calling FInn, Teddy by mistake.  I loved Teddy so much -- sweet and great with children -- but I have to admit FInn was easier to train. It seems like he's smarter but that's not fair.  Beardies are bred to make their own decisions when watching their flock. Congrats!

What a cute dog! Have you seen the Bermiedoodle?

Yes, they are adorable too.  In fact that was what I originally thought I wanted, but I fell in love with the Sheepadoodles.  As a little girl I always wanted an Old English Sheepdog so it was an easy decision once I saw a sheepadoodle puppy.
