Jack hates the rain. He will not go outside if it's raining, or even if it has stopped raining but is still wet out there. He hates being wet, period.
Tara hates the rain and at potty times just dashes out and back. Sometimes when she is out in the rain she flinches every time a drop hits her face. :(( This is not a good thing for a doodle living in Oregon! LOL
Ludo loves the rain! My philosophy is that it's just water so when he's been all cooped up and needs to get some energy out, I'll just take him outside and we'll run around and play together in the rain. He points his head up and opens his mouth, which I think is just adorable! Strangely enough though, the idea of WALKING him in the rain is just dreadful. Maybe it's that I can be soaked but only in the privacy of my own backyard haha!
I remember reading somewhere, that rain amplifies or distorts sounds that dogs hear and some can be fearful or uncertain in the presence of rain and will avoid it. Mine don't seem to care either way, but do hesitate when needing to go potty out in the rain, but they will eventually go.
Charlie does not mind the rain, but I do not think I would find him rolling in it! LOL He seldom rolls on the grass as he is too busy playing ball. Beau does not want to get his feet wet and if it is raining in the morning, he will not go out until he starts to cross his legs and it close to having an accident! He gets the strangest look on his face and then will run ad swing on his bells to get out! He is so hilarious.
Southern California has been in a huge drought for their entire lives, but what little rain we get is not a problem for my doods. My son's Doberman had to be shoved out the door and the door guarded to keep him outside until he had done his business -- and this was true if the grass was wet only from a sprinkler.
My guys are fine with going outside in the rain, although we primarily do quick "potty trips". If we have multiple days of rain I usually send them to Daycare to run around and play.
Oh my gosh! I recently relocated from Las Vegas to Portland and my Doodle is IN LOVE!!!!!! She barks at the patio door to go out and runs all over the back stretch of muddy wet grass!!!! I'm in a condo complex (temporarily) and the rules are really strict (dogs must be leashed) so I'm totally breaking the rule letting her out there on her own but I can't help it! She's just so happy running free in the rain, plus no one else is out there! Yesterday the sun was out, grass had dried and it was a beautiful day. Do you think she wanted to run all over? Nope! She went out to potty and came right back in! Crazy dog! Call me crazy but I think she was as burnt out on the desert as I was!!!
Aspen sounds like a true Oregonian at heart!
One of mine loves the rain and mud--the cream colored one of course--she will prance and dance thru any mud puddle and lie in any bare mud in the yard. The other two tiptoe around it and come running right in to the house, all clean and shiny...luckily, I live on a stream, so the muddy one knows that I might take her for a leg, foot and belly bath before she comes in to the house!
