Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So, I wanted to get your opinions. Maybe some comparison's..

I took Bowie to the Vet, his weight was 20.8 (at his 8 week old check up) . Bowie was born on April 19th. Everyone makes comments about his size so it got me wondering.

Has anyone had a puppy around this size at this age and how much did he or she weigh around 1 years of age?

Thank you!

Rosco was approximately that size at that age.  He's 27.5 inches to the shoulder in height.  And around 95# when he's lean.  He basically weighed about 10 lbs per month until age 8 months when he slowed down. Sounds like you'll have one big hunk of doodle.  Big dogs are awesome!

My puppy is also 8 weeks but is only 10.2 lbs. I was wondering if that was undersized. She is a standard f1 goldendoodle.

My pup was 11lbs at 9 weeks. I expect him to be about 60 pounds...
Hi there, Moose was right around there at that age, I'd have to look up to see exactly how much, but he is currently 15months old and 110 lbs. He's half Bernese Mountian dog so he's very thick and muscular. He's right around 27-28 inches at the shoulder. His brother Loki is a year older and about a half inch taller but 85ish lbs, much more of a poodle build so he is much leaner. Both are giant lap dogs so enjoy the snuggles :)

Thanks so much for commenting. I appreciate it (everyone). I was hoping for a BIG guy! Maybe, just maybe I will get a big guy. :) Regardless, he is my heart!

Hi, Amanda. Bowie is so adorable. When my Dood was a puppy, I was also wondering how big he would get. I was told by the rescue that he probably wouldn't weigh more than 45 lbs. as an adult. But, at 5 years of age, he's 90 lbs. His weight chart is on my profile. Also, please read my thread (link below), where other members shared their puppy growth rates.

Edit: Hmm, why is my link not embedding? Sorry, Amanda. Here's the link: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/heavyweights/forum/topics/what-wa...

My pup was about 15 lbs at that age, but he is an F2b and has a very poodle-like body as opposed to the lab body. He is 27" at the shoulder (just slightly shorter than Adina's Rosco), and 71 lbs. I would say you will definitely have a bigger boy like Rosco and my Orwell.

Many people also commented on Orwell's size then, and still do when they want to confirm that he is a labradoodle.

It sounds like Bowie will fall into the heavyweight category. Oscar was also a big puppy, and eventually matured to 80lbs. at his heaviest (he's now down to 75lbs. after being put on a diet). If I remember correctly, he was about 12lbs at 8 weeks, and 19.5.lbs at 11 weeks. I thought he was a big puppy! Bowie wins, hands down!
I don't think Sawyer was quite 20 lbs at 8 weeks. But he's now 91 lbs. at 3 years old! He was one of the bigger pups in his litter. It's funny because we are so used to him I don't think much about it, until we go out and people gasp at his size! I love love love having a big dog. He's our gentle giant!

It's funny because my daughter was just looking at lab puppies and she found one she loved but he was 25lbs at 8 weeks. I told her he would probably be well over 100lbs and that was probably the low end. She didn't get him, I think that was too much dog for her.  I think you are going to get your very big guy.

Oh my goodness!! She should of gotten him. BIG Doodles are so fun! I am taking him to the vet today to get a microchip. They will be weighing him... Wonder what he weighs after a week with us.

Hi Amanda, if you are also on Facebook, join the Denver Doodles group. There are several people from Colorado Springs. Bowie will need a playmate. :-)
