Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi all!

I am brand new to this forum, and was hoping for a little help from you guys My wife and I are getting a "large mini/small medium" Australian labradoodle next week, and the breeder says that she projects him to be 30-34lbs at maturity. His mom is listed as 16", 23lbs and his dad is listed at 16.5", 32lbs.

It is difficult for me to visualize how big 30-34lbs will look, and I was hoping that some folks with similar sized doodles could post a picture(s) of their dog? Preferably next to another dog or some sort of object for scale. I see photos of doodles online in wide open grass fields, or that are cropped to just show the dog...so even smaller ones look huge! It would be nice to have something to use as a size reference. Thanks in advance for any feedback/help! I cannot wait to get our little dood!

I don't really understand this mix.  Large, mini, small, medium seems to cover it all.  The ALDs are usually a medium-sized dog and I have a typical ALD.  He is about 50-55 pounds.  Take a look on my page and you can see him in several settings. He is a nice sized dog, but I usually have larger.  He has a great coat and easily managed.  Does not shed and does not smell.  I don't know about the mini/small, but most breeders are going for smaller dogs because most people have them in the house and larger dogs take a lot of space.

Thanks for the reply Lynda. I've seen the weight ranges for "mini" and for "medium" sized ALDs, and depending on the source, there is sometimes a little overlap. What I meant was, the breeder projects him to be 30-34lbs at maturity, so on the high end of the "mini" spectrum, or the low end of the "medium" spectrum, depending on the source. With that said, I was hoping to find some other users with doodles in the 16-18", 30-34lb range, so that I could have an idea of what to expect.

You will love this dog anyway, no matter what size (s)he turns out to be.  They are super dogs and very lovable.  Your breeder is the best source of information, particularly if she has bred this dogs before.

Nancy's photos below give you a great idea of what to expect (and should get you excited).

Think about the size of a cocker spaniel. That is somewhat in that range.
Jaxson is a medium Australian Labradoodle. He weighs about 34 lbs. People always think he is bigger than that. Maybe it's the hair. Or the fact he is kind of tall for his size. Here is a picture of him with me.

He's so cute! Thanks for the pic! I am beginning to realize that it's not so much the weight that determines how big the dog looks, but more so the length/height! Hopefully since his mom is 16" and his dad is 16.5", he will stay around that size! :)

Perhaps it would be easier to compare your ALD's current weight and age with other members' ALDs. This would possibly give you some sort of idea on what to expect of your pup at full growth.

Ned is 16 1/2" at the shoulder and weighs 28 pounds.  He is still considered a mini. Here he is with Santa and with a child's toy lawnmower. And here is Charlie. Charlie weighs 36 - 40 pounds.  He is definitely considered a medium. You can see that he is a bit bigger than Ned.

I have 2 ALD's.  Oliver (right) is medium and he is 38lbs, Ivy (left) is small medium and is 24lbs.

Thanks so much for the pictures and the tips, everyone! If folks could post pictures of themselves standing next to their doodle(s), that would be really helpful to see how big they are relative to actual people :) If you know the length/height/weight of your dood, that would be helpful too!

Thanks everyone

Champ is 12 years old and about 58 lbs.  Far as we're concerned he's just right. He stays in the house and we run it the way he tells us to. He has us well trained.

Thanks for the reply, Jerry. Champ is about 2x the size that my pup is expected to be at maturity. Would love to see anyone's pics of dogs that are closer to the 16-17" 28-34lb range though! If they're standing next to you for some scale, that would be even better!! I get my little guy on Thursday!
