SO excited! Bringing home puppy in a few weeks and going shopping soon for supplies. Is there a list here of recommended things I should buy?

I am new here, this is my first post.  Super excited to be finally bringing home my little doodle.

I need to buy everything!  Crate, bowls, food, poop bags, leash, brushes, etc.

Favorite toys?  I"m so nervous about him choking.  I know I should get a Kong at the least.

Anything that you really recommend or a list somewhere on this forum?

Thank you!

I will check out our local Craigslist, thanks!  Haven't heard of a snuggle puppy, what a cute idea.

if you are serious about the snuggle puppy, let me know, that would be great!  ty!

I am. Send me a pm.
We use a collar and an easy walk harness as well, but we had to put off using the harness the first week or so because Ellie would start peeing because she couldn't wait for the harness to be put on. So we walk her like every 30 minutes and after having her just over a week we were able to start with the harness.... So, point is have both. We never leave a harness on because it can cause injury or they can eat it.

thanks!

Please don't use a flexi-leash.  Not only are they dangerous for the dog (and you if they break), they don't help you train the dog to walk with you.

I won't.. someone else told me not to use a retractable leash, thank you.

Just another thought, ...a double loop leash (or could be called double handle leash)... keeps the dog much closer and easier to control at times, especially when near roads or crossing streets, there would also be other times this could be extremely useful, both of our leashes are double loop, that way we always have the extra handle/loop available when needed,  also we keep two leashes available at all times, one is connected to the harness and the other connected to the Lupine martingale collar, we never leave these on in the house, we have a coat hook rack in utility room by door, we hang both leashes on the rack, that way they are always available whenever needed and ready to put on him.....we also hang his raincoat and a raincoat/poncho for us on the coat hook rack.......you might want to add a raincoat to the list of supplies.... Toby has a raincoat he wears out when raining, covers most of him which really helps when we get back inside, we also have the microfiber drying towel which is kept on the rack near the door....so many things to think about...lol  (not the best picture, it was misting, raining, cloudy, snowy...etc)

oh gosh, thank you, great info, love the idea of a rain coat.  I figured I would get a microfiber towel but hadn't thought of a raincoat.

What an exciting time for you! Congratulations. My dogs loved the Snuggle Puppy and bully sticks were great for the teething. I also recommend getting a camera because you are going to want lots of pictures :)

haha, yes, i can't wait! :)

Congratulations!! It's so exciting getting a new puppy. I got my doodle in July, and he's 4 months old now. One thing I would suggest, is be careful with which treats you buy before you get your puppy. I bought a ton of different training treats, including Zukes. As it turns out, Charlie doesn't like ANYTHING besides his kibble, ONE brand of duck jerky (and no other brand, i've tried lol), and cheese! He'll eat boiled chicken, but he's picky about some meats as well. He won't even eat fruits or vegetables. I'm hoping this will change as he gets older because i'd really like to add some fresh food to his kibble, but for now he won't go near it.

Another thing i'd suggest is having a distraction toy with you everywhere you go. I had a toy in all of my purses when I first got him, because I would bring him everywhere with me. As for toys, I would suggest just going to TJ Maxx / Marshalls & places like that and getting inexpensive ones until you figure out what he/she likes, but also get nylabone puppy bones for teething / kong toys.

Good luck!!!
