Our Nico was neutered about a month ago...at 7 mos. Before the surgery he was a little mischevious, but tolerable. WOW he seems to be getting into MORE stuff than ever before.
He never barked 'territorially' before the neutering. Now he barks at everyone walking past the house. He finds socks, trash and others belongings WAY more now that before the snipping. And he even, ummm...'humps' my 7 year old more now, too.
Since this seems so contrary to what we were expecting, I was wondering if anyone else experienced the same post-op behavior? Any thoughts?

It takes a long time for the hormones to get out of his system. A month is not long enough to judge. He will settle down.
Oh thank goodness! Thanks for the insight. It's not that he's upsetting us...but wow, he's in another gear lately! lol
appreciate you taking the time to reply.

my pup was neutered at 3 months and now at 6 months has just started the humping. It has only happened a couple times, and both times he seemed to be highly stressed with his surroundings. I hope that does not continue! He also went through a short phase of finding anything he could to carry around, but that seems to have passed. Equating it with the terrible twos makes sense

I wouldn't worry too much, the teenager years are starting :).
It also takes a while until the hormons are out of the body. Benny was neutered at the age of six month and took around 3 months until he slowly started to settle down a bit. He is now 10 months and puberty can give you a hard time but just be consequent and it will work out. Good luck!
Toby was neutered just about 3 weeks ago, at 6 1/2 months. His behaviour is about the same - maybe a litte MORE boisterous. "sigh". But.....my son's girlfriend is going through to be a vet tech., and she told me that yes, they go through a teenage stage, and it does get worse before it gets better, but to hang on, and stay in charge. To that end, we start back at Obedience School this Friday for 8 weeks. :) Hopefully that will take us through the rough patch, and help me stay in authority, because Toby's a big boy!
Not sure this is the thread I want to read right now! LOL Gaston is scheduled to get neutered on Thursday. He's six months old. We're not doing it due to any behavior issues....other than counter surfing occasionally he's as good as gold. He hasn't humped a soul (yet) and is truly a very chilled out dood. He's just being neutered because we believe in birth control and don't want one date at the dog park to mess up his future! LOL I certainly hope having him neutered doesn't "change" what makes him him......
These are all great comments. Thank you all. Carole, our Nico, despite these adolescent incidents sounds a lot like your Gaston. All in all he's a treasure. After reading the responses, I feel better. I think Gaston AND Nico will be fine, too! :)
Good luck - and thanks again, everyone. It makes more sense now.
I agree, it's an age thing. If you go to IDOG.biz and scroll down the page and click on Development Stages of a puppy. I love this - Adolescence period (7-10 months) "Welcome to the teenage years - enjoy the ride".
Max was early neutered at 7 weeks and he'll be 8 months old next week and he's definitely going thru this phase. I have to keep reminding myself that he's still a puppy :-)
