Does anybody have a 1yr+ doodle that vomits occasionally?

Since he was a puppy, Riley would vomit yellow bile from time to time early in the morning. When he was younger, this occurred about once every two weeks. I've asked the vet about this several times, and she says that it is not uncommon with puppies because they may eat weird things when outside. She said that another reason may be because he has an empty stomach in the morning. So, I now feed his dinner later in the evening (~9:30 pm). This has certainly helped, but he's now 1 yr 3 months, and he still vomits about once every 6 weeks. The most recent occurrence was last week during the afternoon rather than in the morning.

I'm going to ask the vet again in 2 weeks when Riley gets his shots, but wanted to see if anybody else has experienced this and whether there are some underlying health issues that I should ask the vet about.

thx in advance.

It might help to give him a snack first thing in the morning... but once every 6 weeks doesn't sound to concerning, really. Try a small biscuit or doggy treat in the AM first thing...see if that helps.
mine does the same thing, with about the same regularity/ I have wracked my brain to figure out the source, but I agree that the bright yellow color indicates that the stomach is empty and it's bile.
So interesting to read this discussion as I started my own discussion on a similar topic this morning! I just received a call from our vet and she agrees that it must be hunger as our dog's activity level is so high abnd she has never thrown up any food throughout the day. The vet told me that some dogs really get hungry and the vomiting signifies an empty stomach. I was also looking for some physical problem but the vet suggested giving her a treat in her crate to help stave off the hunger until breakfast. i don't know why I found it so hard to believe that it could merely be hunger as I get wild migraines if I don't eat throught the day--I think I have a copy-cat doodle!
Thanks for everybody's replies. This is reassuring because I've always been worried about the vomiting. I'll let you know if the vet thinks differently

And I didn't see Phoebe's mom's post on this topic earlier this morning, so sorry to ask a redundant question!
I thought it was so interesting that this was not uncommon. Hopefully, both of our dogs will outgrow this yucky phase!
Max is just 1 and he also vomits occasionally....no warning until you hear that unmistakeable sound!! Generally he vomits in the morning also...a great way to start the day isn't it!! :)
The initial dry heaving is the worst.....I feel so bad for him, and he always looks so sad after vomiting....
Casey used to do this more when he was young, and it seemed to happen when he was stressed. (Yes, he's my Delicate Flower.) When we bought our house in Rochester, Casey christened every room by throwing up a little in it as we were going through. He then went outside, found a pile of rabbit doo, ate it and came inside and threw it up all over the (very light beige) living room rug.

He seems to be better as he's gotten older, thank goodness.
My last dog Buddy used to throw up the yellow bile. There was nothing wrong with him-his stomach was empty and if he drank water on his empty stomach especially if the water was too cold or if he ate an ice cube which he loved-he would start the heaving and throw up. We finally figured out that he could not have water of icecubes until after he ate. Then he was fine. He only ate in the evening and we tried to give him a breakfast meal of his kibble but he was not interested-unless of course we added bacon and eggs!! So, by the time I came home from work, sometimes I would fill his water bowl for him before I put his dinner out-sure enough he would throw up after drinking it on his empty stomach.
Our dog Hannah has gotten sick in the car twice. She is 5 months old. I think it is when she gets stressed out and does not feel in control is why she gets sick in the car. When I hold her in the car she does not get sick. I am hoping she out grows this with more successful car rides because I will not be able to hold her on my lap for long in the car - right now she is 31 lbs (and no I was not driving the car :). Good luck with Riley.
This also happened with Abby. She is 15 months old now and it hasn't happened for the last 2 months. It always happened in the morning. Her vet thought she was probably hungry.
My cocker Spaniel Winston did this! He was a grass eater! I was told by the Vet that dogs usually eat grass to clear their throats? I know that eating a litte grass is ok..but my Winston loved it! Maybe ya need to monitor exactly how much grass and outside stuff that your pup is consuming. I use to feed Winston before we went outside and it did help.....he still had his grass though!
