I was wondering what the difference is between a Australian Labradoodle or a Australian multigen labradoodle? I think the multigen must mean a few generations in the mix, but I might be wrong. I guess what I really want to know is their more poodle in the multigen labradoodles? Any info. would be helpful=) Thanks
They are all multigens but some people believe in ONLY mixing "true" Australian labradoodles with other Australian labradoodles who have origins in either Tegan Park or Rutland Manor. While others believe it's okay to mix Australian labradoodles with American multigens.
I think "ASD" only applies to dogs directly from Rutland Manor, but I'm not 100% sure. Not sure when they renamed their dogs but I think it was to distinguish themselves as the original Australian labradoodle since Beverly was the founder of the Australian labradoodle that has more than just lab/poodle in it.
Multigen I think is anything past the F3 generation or perhaps F3 is the start??? I forget. Honestly it doesn't much matter to me. As long as you know what to expect and you get the health testing, and look you want...The only pertinent factor is cost. Higher generation doodles are typically more costly.
I read that the Australian Labradoodles actually have more than just lab and poodle in the mix. Is that true? I thought I must have misread as that would mean they are no longer truly a labradoodle (per se), wouldn't it? As much as I loved learning about Mendel's genetic experiments with pea plants in biology, trying to keep all that stuff straight now just gives me a headache! :)
They do have more than lab and poodle in their lineage. But they are still "labradoodles" even if they are not pure "LABradOODLES." Some breeders are even now infusing cocker spaniels into their higher generation labradoodles.
First of all "ASD" is registered as I believe a trademark and can only be used if licensed by Beverley Manners. Please be careful not to infringe on her property.
Saying that the best person to answer your questions is Beverly - the developer of Austalian labradoodles. I do believe she is a member of Doodlekisses. Hopefully she will join the discussion.
I think you're right...but I don't think it's infringement to discuss a title/trademark any more than it is infringement to discuss Pepsi or Coca Cola. On the other hand if I called a new beverage of my creation by the name of Pepsi then I'd be in trouble.
Beverly is welcome to step in and share her thoughts, but I'm not sure she checks DK much.
Adina -
The point I was trying to make is that breeders must be licensed by Beverley in order to use the "ASD" in their description of their Labradoodles. There are breeders that are not licensed that are using the term anyway. Even though a dog may be descended from Rutland or Tegan Park dogs they are not necessarily "ASD" Labradoodles.
Got it =)
I think I misunderstood what you meant when you said to be careful about infringing on property since the question askers were not breeders.
Yes, I agree...because it is a name that Rutland Manor uses then a doodle is only an ASD if it is from Beverly or a Beverly approved breeder of ASD's. I am quite sure that's correct...hope we're right!
