We are going to my mom's for 4th of July weekend and are bringing the dogs. The older one loves it there - there is a walking trail with a beach, lake etc. My mom lives in a condo so there is not a lot of property that is just her's. I spoke to the vet who said that because Ollie will only be 11 weeks and still needs 2 more rounds of shots - he is not fully protected and shouldnt be where lots of other dogs have tread (read pooped). We can take him out on the lake on a boat and go to an island where vet felt like risk would be less. Anyone else dealt with this? I dont want him to have to stay in the condo all day!
Stacey, Kai is around the same age as Ollie. We use this to take him out without him touching things he shouldn't. He is very content to have us touch him and look at the world from here. Picked it up at a local pet food store but I have seen them at Petco too.
I am no expert-but if you carry him onto the boat- I guess that would be OK. Honestly-I would not let him down on the ground on the island either. There are still animals on this island right-even birds carry disease. I wouldn't worry about rabies, but Parvo is a huge issue with puppies.
We were traveling with our pup around the same age as Ollie back in March and april. I did take him for walks around the RV parks, but avoided the common dog areas and always used wet-ones or wash cloth to wipe his paws when we returned to the RV.
I avoided other dogs entirely for quite awhile, and would tell owners that he was still needing shots before he could play with other dogs if they approached. Don;t know how old they HAVE to be to go swimming, but I let mine go into some streams and a pond by about 12 weeks old. There are probably lots of info on here about what you should or shouldn;t do with them at that age. My Murphy is 6 1/2 months old and never been sick, even with being in about 5 different states and as many or more RV Parks by 12 weeks old.
