"Ice on Ice" vs "Mane & Tail Detangler" vs "Liquid Slicker" vs any others?

I've used the first two. I tend to alternate between them from brushing to brushing and honestly haven't noticed a big difference between them. My pup is only 8 mos. so still pretty new at this and haven't encountered the dreaded coat change yet. Just wondering if anyone has opinions on the best detanglers.

I have used the Original Horse Mane and Tail Detangler and Cowboy Magic Detangler. I use the Original.... to spray all over and I use the Cowboy Magic for a specific matt. They both help. My groomer uses something else and I will have to ask her the name of it.
You just made me remember that the Mane and Tail Detangler I bought was the one marketed for dogs. Maybe they're different formulas?? And the Cowboy Magic does work great on matts for us too so far.
I don't know about the one for dogs. It may be the same or may not be as "slick." We tend to shop at the feed store for lots of our dog stuff.
I could not find the Mane and Tail detangler, so I bought an inexpensive hair detangler at the ethnic hair section. It worked like a charm!
Good Idea. For the mane and tail detangler you have to go to a store that carries horse stuff. It might carry dog things too, but it is an old-fashioned "feed store"
It's strange but just look - my local family owned grocery store carries Mane and Tail and I noticed that some Walmarts do as well. Just start checking - it is in the people shampoo section of these stores. It is very reasonably priced, too. It's actually very nice for people hair too. I have tried it myself.
GREAT KYOKO. Jeri Curl? Which one?
Zoe reached the dreaded coat change this week. I was soooo impressed with her coat and then wham. In one week we went to mat city. Slowly working them out. What detangeler works the best. Used wet or dry. I am actually scissoring out some mats. seriously, I cannoot believe how quickly this happened. 5 days ago she was silk!!!
When there's already a mat, I find that the Cowboy Magic detangler works the best (of the products I've tried). The consistency is like baby oil. You can kind of soak the mat with it and then carefully brush it out. Sometimes I wait a few minutes to brush it out, not sure if it helps but seems to. Good luck Andrea!!
I did a major scissoring them out last night on Luca and he's 19 mos. old!
Like Diane says you put the Cowboy Magic on the specific mat and wait, then you can comb it out. You can pre-spray with Detangler all over, wait a bit then brush/comb also. If you are cutting out mats, use the scissors sideways to slice through the mat in several places and then comb it out. If you just cut the mat away you will have big short spots. Ned will be what I think of as fine, then then next day he will have lots of mats. I have found that while he is still matting, I can more often comb them out than when he was younger. Then, I was using the scissor trick all of the time rather than once in a while. My groomer also gave me a finishing spray that I use on him after brushing. I spray and scrunch. It kind of puts the twists back in the hairs. If you don't have a finishing spray, just water helps.
Thanks, I actually have almost all out except for one on her front paw. Tomorrow she goes to the groomer for the first time. I'mm alittle nervous but think she needs it. Hoping then I can just maintain it. I want to leave her as long as possible though. Hope it works.
