Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

The time has come to seriously think about replacing my Civic and since my dog will be ready to take home shortly, I need to think about his needs too.  For those with standard sized doodles what kind of vehicle do you drive?

I am a Honda guy so I have been seriosly thinking about a CR-V or more likely an Element because my girlfriend has a lab and being able to take the back seats out would make it super easy to carry around two 70ish pound dogs.  Does anyone own either or these vehicles and if so how do you like it?

We love love love our Toyota Rav 4 and have 2 doodles.  We wanted a 6-cylinder that gets good gas mileage so that pushed us towards the Rav 4.
I have two doodles, 50 and 54 lbs, and we have no problem getting them around in our 2005 Hyundai Tucson.  It's a 6 cylinder, but I understand the newer ones are only 4 cylinders.

I have a chevrolet cobalt sedan and find it works just fine for Cooper (60lbs). In fact, 2 Coopers would fit on the back seat nicely, even laying down. No need for a gas guzzling, more polluting bigger vehicle.

If you remove the seats, please do still have the dogs tethered down with a crash tested harness and belt - a customer of mine was in a car accident yesterday, and though she is ok..... her dog may not be (and she has spent $3000 at the vets so far to try to get him fixed)

I would love to keep a car.  I just got a new job and it is going to be a half an hour drive each way.  The problem is I don't think my dog is going to fit in a compact car and I think he may end up being too tall for any car.
My daughter has the CRV and loves it. Lots of interior space, she's had it three years and so far it's been trouble free, knock on wood.

My husband and I just got an Element this past October.  We have 2 doodles and it works great for traveling with them.....we also love road trips, so it seemed to be an easy choice.  They were in extremely high demand this past year and we were lucky to get a red one....the salesman tried to force a gray one on me but I'm stubborn lol.  It drives great and does have good space with the seats out and the high roof.  It only seats 2 people in the back though because of the bucket seats.   I think they are nice looking cars....sure I've gotten the comments about how it looks like a tissue box on wheels but I like to think it looks like a mini Land Rover (which I hope to someday own...yea right).   =)

HOWEVER....there are some things to consider before getting one...I've been told that after this year, they will be discontinued....don't know if that's 100% true or if it's a big deal, but I got nervous when I heard that.  They are also AWFUL on gas.  We get about 20 miles to the gallon (although it feels like less) but considering it's a 4 cylinder I feel like we should get more on it......hmm other than that it's good in snow...it's obviously a Honda which I swear by.  Feel free to message me for any specifics if need be and happy car shopping!

We have a Honda CR-V.  Love it.  Your GF, if she drives it, will appreciate the fact you can put your purse on the floor in between seats if there is another passenger versus have to put it in the back.

Ford Explorer...two Doodles, and love it!

Ford Flex, one dood.  love it!

My mom has the CR-V, and we've used it on lots of trips with Halas.  It has s lot of room for doods and cargo.

The Element is going out of production SOON! Like weeks. If you live in a hilly area the Element does not have enough power. It's really dog oriented otherwise. And great if you live somewhere flat.
I replaced my VW Touareg V8 SUV with the Ford Flex and I absolutely love it!!!  There are three rows of seats and so many options on laying them down.  All go down completely flat.  I also have the Eco Boost which in other terms is a turbo engine and it hauls!!!  Gracie Doodle is 70 lbs and a very tall standard.
