Who has Estee/Casey pups?

I am currently doodless. But after thinking about getting a dood from out of state I decided that Almond Blossom is the breeder I'd like to go to....and I can drive there to actually meet my pup. I called their vet and got a rave review....then all of your comments here helped me to make my decision. I'm hoping to get on a list for Estee and Casey.

yup, we got bitten a few times before Mochi was one year old, and it got really bad when Mochi was around 7~10 months old because he was much stronger and he knew that too. He still guards things he shouldn't have, but he's much better now, and drops most of the times when we told him to. (no more snaps).
You just have to keep working on this, don't let puppies get away with it, this behavior will only get worse if you don't correct it now.

Your method is the preferable way to get her to drop it, that's for sure. But if she ever growls/snaps/bites you, be sure to take swift action and let her know that it's not acceptable. I'm surprised how many mom's on here have said their dogs will BITE them if they try to take something away. Apparently they didn't get the situation under control when the pups were young and now they are afraid of them - and the dogs know it.

Thanks Linda, good advice. I used to pick her up and hold her out in front of me so she would submit, but she is heavy now and the laying down would be easy to do. Today she got a piece of rawhide shoestring and she had her mouth closed so tight we would need the jaws of life to get them apart!! LOL! But I did what our trainer recommended and held onto the other end of the shoestring (so she wouldn't swallow it like her Sister Luxie)and I brought her to the kitchen and gave her a command to sit and I got a treat out, told her "off" and put the treat on the floor. This is something we have been working on the last week in training, after a 7 second wait, I told her to "take it" and it worked, she dropped the string and got the cookie. The good thing of this is that she was under my command at the time and was doing what she was told and it wasn't a battle of wills to get it out of her mouth. That's what I liked about that method. But I will try the "flip" at some point because maybe the treat thing won't work next time, and it is always good to have a back up.

We had an issue with Toby when he was about 4 months old - he started "resource guarding" - growling and showing signs of aggression if he had a sock (or something else he shouldn't be chewing on) that we wanted to take away. Man oh man, it was like he turned into the Tazmanian Devil. A whirlwind of snapping. (Only to my adult daughter, Gina, and I - never to my husband.) This was NOT acceptable. Especially since we had two small grandchildren living with us also. So Gina and I agreed that If he growled/snapped, we would immediately and firmly flip him onto his side (lying down), say, "NO GROWL" (while growling at him), take the item away, and make him stay in that submissive position for about 10-15 seconds. Some may disagree with this method, but let me tell ya, it WORKED. He got the message loud and clear that he is NOT the alpha dog in this house. (It took several weeks of being very consistent in our response.) He is such a love-bug now. It's so nice knowing I can take anything out of his mouth - even a treat - and never have to worry about being snapped at or bitten.

The only time he gets grouchy now is if he's sound asleep and I pick him up and move him. Sometimes he's at the foot of the bed and I want to bring him up to the pillow to snuggle for a minute. He grumbles LOUDLY but never, EVER snaps. Good boy. :)

Perfect. That's how it should be:) Just keep that Resource Guarding in check. These dogs seem to have an issue with that. They do out grow it but during the puppy stage it can be very trying.

Kashmir was 4 months old yesterday and is doing great. We went to the vet today and she had her last shot... rabies... so now she is a "real" dog and can everywhere, YAY! She weighed in at 21.82 lbs. Doc says she is right where she should be. We are in our 5th week of Puppy Kindergarten and she is doing very good there also. She does sometimes have a "Resource Guarding" when it comes to socks, rags or something she shouldn't have, but we are working with that with our trainer. Other wise she is a great girl puppy and we are enjoying her very much. She loves to give kisses, loves her crate, loves to go for walks and gets along with my grandson really well.
