Here are a few of the paintings. I just got one class. I have been sick so did not get as many photos as I would have liked. We close up the gardening classes this week and the kids took home their paintings and mosquito catchers last week. I had sixteen students this time, from Kg. to 7th grade. These are my second grade students.
Elizabeth - I see you are a new member of the Art Cafe. Welcome and love to see what kind of art you are doing.
I'll try that.
Sounds like everyone had fun. :D It would have been cool to see all the bamboo paintings lined up in a row, like a bamboo forest - haha!
It was great. We did the painting with the Tuesday class and the Wednesday class. We painted bamboo. It was interesting how the canvases turned out. First we painted segmented lines up the canvas, then put in the offshoots of the bamboo, then the leaves and grass or something along the bottom. We used four colors (beige, yellow, brown, and green). The kg. girls just wanted to paint their whole canvas, the older kids liked following directions.
Oh that sounds like fun Lynda!
I decided to give it a try with my gardening classes. I bought the canvases and brushes today and have plenty of acrylic paints. The kids are from Kg. to 7th grade, so it should be interesting. I will let you know how it goes.
My good friend's daughter does this as a sideline. Not only does she teach art to high schoolers during as a day job, she was an art major in college. If all the teachers are his qualified, the classes should be fun and informative. Apparently it is very popular out here in California.
In the painting class, it's strictly traditional painting. Everyone is given a blank 16x20 canvas and a paper plate with several blobs of acrylic paint, in a variety of colors - whatever is needed for the image she is going to show you how to paint. (Students are welcome to request different or additional colors of paint.) Then the instructor walks you step-by-step through the process of painting it... "First, cover your entire canvas with white paint to prime it. Now, let's go over it loosely with yellow, like this..."
Went to the website and took a look. Actually I was at a restaurant in Boulder Creek this weekend and they had all kinds of giclees up on the wall from an artist who said they were acrylics on canvas. I think they were paint overs of prints from the computer. I like the paint over I did with my photo of the dog and the GG Bridge. But when you do a portrait is it starting with a photo and painting on the computer or do you actually do it with acrylics? I will talk with my digital arts teacher today. She loves looking at your work here on DK.
