I'm taking a "self study" little program called "The Artist's Way" which is designed to enhance creativity. It is developed by Julia Cameron, and I'm only a couple weeks into in, but I love it. There is a book designed to stimulate thought and there's a daily journal exercise. Basically you write "morning pages" which are just kind of your first "random" thoughts in the morning. There is kind of a "spiritual" element to it but it's very generic which really is just a reference to a creative SOURCE in the universe. I know it sounds kind of "out there" but for me it is helping me to get focused again on creating. Just wanted to share.....I would definitely recommend it.
Diane - welcome to Art Cafe. Please share your art with us here. We love to see things you make and get ideas.
Linda, thanks for your response on how you "colorize"....somehow I missed your comment here.
Lisa - welcome to the Art Cafe. What kind of art do you do? Love to see some photos here.
Aha! Just noticed that they extended the contest through Saturday. Nice! :)
Sorry, should have said, HEATED, not wicked. Still, an intense group with good eyes, and no holds back on your photography.
So, if you are looking to enhance your work, become better, or just see what's out there....
That's what I meant :)
Good Luck to those of you and let me know if you enter. I'll be watching
I've entered this contest before. They really do have a low turnout and I think many of you could blow them away with your work so DONT hold back if you are interested.
On a side note-- I think this is the most wicked FB group on the subject of photography I have ever seen. If nothing else, it is worth watching. OH my
For those who enjoy doing photo composites, there is a group on Facebook called "Photohoshop and Lightroom." To celebrate reaching 90,000 members they are having a Creative Photo Compositing Contest. (From today through Friday night.) Three winners will get a copy of Mark Johnson's Dramatic Portrait Compositing Video Tutorial Series (or any other Premium Video Tutorial series in his store). This contest is open to members of this FB group. All you have to do is click the Join button.
Hrmmm... DK is acting glitchy. I tried to reply to a question that Jane asked me (in "Linda's artwork") about how I colorized my last painting of a little girl in which the reference image was a black and white photo. It only posted the first word of my reply ("Hi") and the rest was blank. When I deleted what I wrote, it removed Jane's question as well. (Sorry Jane!) I'll see if I can re-post the reply here:
Hi Jane,
I used Photoshop (brush > color replacement tool) to carefully apply color to her skin and clothes. What's nice about doing it this way is that the shadowed areas automatically take on a deeper shade without having to use a different color. Then I adjusted the opacity/contrast/etc., to get the skin to look natural which was the biggest challenge! From there, I approached painting it the same way I always do, with a combination of Photoshop and Corel Painter.
I'll start an Art Cafe topic called "Tips and Tricks" and post a Youtube video I found that was really helpful.
