I was showing my oldest daughter tonight pictures from our trip and she could not believe that we actually broke our cardinal rules - NEVER feed a puppy from the table. We did - when we were out at restaurants with Samantha. We do allow her to get away with things we never would have tolerated before. I guess with age you mellow and it is my perogitive to change the rules as it fits into our life. I must admit, that tonight, our first night home, when we ate dinner Samantha did go to another room to play and take a nap! I was concerned it would be a problem!! So far, so good.

Nancy,
Amen to that!! Couldn't have said it better! I think that is what makes our group special - we care but we just don't care as long as it works for us. All that 'what will the neighbors think' - I am too old to give a hoot.

Welcome to all of us. We seem to all be in different stages of emptying our nests - even if it started that way! What bonds us all together, I think, is that we are at a stage in our lives that allows us to more fully enjoy our doodles and not care if other people think we are nuts. Some of us may be enjoying our doodles by making time to train them really well, and others are enjoying less training and more spoiling than we could allow when our kids were home. Either extreme - or in between - we are enjoying the now with our pups a lot!

Of course you qualify!! You have the 'years of experience', don't you?? Sorry, that was fresh but very funny, don't you think? We will be home by Sunday! Maybe we can meet over the next weekend. I will call you, send my love Carl.

Ok - here goes -
I'm an empty nester too but may not really because i always consider a empty nester to be sad. I'm not at all sad. not that i don't love my kids but i'm liking this time of my life. I really like being to be able come and go as I please and most of all i enjoy these young adults that i've raised so much. Also, since i work part time this is such a wonderful time to raise these puppies. Fergie came last year and her sister, Ginger, is coming in three weeks. I have alot of time for them and it shows. My neighbors continually comment on how good Fergie is. I did have a dog prior to Fergie. I had one for 18 years in fact. Noone commented how good Betsy was because noone had the time to put into her as a puppy. Dogs take time and the empty nest time is the best. Tomorrow we're going to some obedience classes (during the day) so that she can be certified for a good companion dog or something like that. I know she'll breeze right thru these classes. Then we can go visit hospitals and stuff. What better breed of dog is there to do that. How could anyone not smile when they take just look at these dogs. I truly do love this breed. I'm getting wordy now. Have a nice day.
