That's interesting... I've never experienced doodle haters... in fact, just the opposite. Everyone who comes in contact with Lucy loves her. Some assume she is a poodle, but many ask if she's a doodle of some sort.
I haven't posted doodle questions elsewhere... and I think I never will! Thanks for the head's up!
You are going to have to grow a thick skin with a doodle! I have been attacked many times for my choice of breed. On the flip side, even more people absolutely love Darwin, and want to know all about him!
I wish everyone could put "dog politics" aside and realize that all dogs are wonderful, no matter what their breed is. I agree that we should never support bad breeders or puppy mills, but that goes for any dog, purebred or mixed!
Well said, Linda! I think you hit the nail right on the head when you were talking about the Internet. Normal people combined with the anonymity of the Internet can breed horrible behavior and words that people would dare not do or say face-to-face. Having said that, fortunately my only negative experience about having a goldendoodle was on the Internet, particularly a Yahoo group. In "real life", people adore my dog and ask me tons of questions about him. Overall, the general response has been positive and peole seem to be really excited and interested in doodles.
YES! We took Bexter on a trip with us to St. Louis over the 4th of July holiday. I had to answer A MILLION questions about what type of dog he was, etc. Everyone said that he looked like a real live teddy bear or stuffed animal (which he does) It was very flattering, but it can be exhausting...so I guess I need to buy one of our
Doodlekiss shirts so that I can wear that and everyone can just read the shirt! YAY!
Everyone seems to have said things very well...I won't have anything other than a doodle now that I've had several...if the "negative nellies" only knew what they were missing out on! I think the saying "ignorance breeds contempt" is very appropriate here...and all of the dog lovers I know from our local dog park just LOVE the doods (there are 5-6 members that have doodles and I live in a VERY SMALL town).
As for shedding, I had a lab/poodle mix that DID shed. She had rather straight wiry hair. Now I have a multigen labradoodle that doesn't seem to shed and an F1B (goldendoodle/poodle) that although young doesn't seem to shed thus far. It just depends on the genes :)
lol, I might add. Even some DOODLE OWNERS are Doodle Haters!
I'm not kidding. I brought BB to a dog park and got so excited to recognize another doodle. I sought out his owner, and said "hi" and started small talking. About 3 seconds into the conversation she said something like, "Oh, our dog is 8 years old, we got him wayyyyyyy before it was such a designer dog" (there was more, too, but I have since forgotten it)
Maybe its because i'm "young", or appeared "yuppy" or whatever. But I put so much more thought into our dog than 95% of people out there, and its offensive to me that people would think that I got our BB because its a trend. I perceived her snarky comment as hostile, and I did NOT invite her into the love and support of doodle kisses. BLEGH!
