Lucy was getting dirty ears even with me cleaning them twice a week with solution from the vet.
Our breeder suggested Thornit ear powder. Its from the UK. It cost about $40.00. A little goes a very long way. Lucy's ears have been WONDERFUL since then! I just wanted to share this info bc the powder cost less then a vet visit! We use the powder now once per week to maintain the good ears.
We use the solution after swimming to dry the ears. Hope this helps someone.

Thank you for the update as we are just venturing back to swimming with Murphy and he has a history of chronic ear infections for most of his first year of life, due to swimming I believe. However, I plan on staying on top of this even more now, if that is even possible. He is 2 yr 8 months old and still backs away when he sees a cotton ball or any bottle that even looks like it might have ear solution in it.
I have the powder as well and am doing once or twice a week along with a Tea Tree Oil solution I made. Very diluted solution. I am using it for hot spots right now as well and so far so good for both ears and spots.
It maybe took a week? It came much faster then I thought it would.
Yes, it is a powder. You take just a SMALL amount and put it in the ear ... Not in it but around
You rub the ear and then it will naturally fall in. It has worked WONDERS for Miss Lucy
Our Lucy had a mild infection when we started using Thornit powder. Not the full blown infections she's been known to get, but a mild one, just the same. It seems her right ear ALWAYS had some level of infection, even after a round of antibiotic/antibacteria ear medicine. Thornit took about a month for Lucy's ears to get nice and pink and clean. That was with using a tiny amount every other day. It does work with infections.. it just takes time. I wouldn't use it on a full blown ear infection though. The time Thornit takes to work would make for some painful weeks for the pup.
