I'm certainly open to another romp. The Lake Ida Park looks interesting. I couldn't tell from the pictures if the dogs have access to water to swim in. Here is their link http://www.pbcgov.com/parks/dogparks/lakeida/. Beca could you please tell us more? I know a number of people come from the north end of the tri-county area. It might be a good idea to alternate dogparks so that not everyone has to travel a distance each time. Wendy with Oski comes from the south. ...any input about rotating meeting places? Should we meet earlier...say 8:30 or 9...when it is cooler? Or is that not realistic for a Sunday morning?

I post The South Florida Doodle Meetup group romps that are scheduled by Ann on Facebook under IDOG. This is to make sure we cover everyone. IDOG does not have it's own romps. All I was saying below is we really have to watch our pets in this hot weather. Dexter does not tolerate heat at all. Frank gets hot fast too. Dexter swims all summer in our pool. After Dexter started developing heat stroke some years ago, I only take him to bodies of water.

The Lake Ida dog park is at Lake Ida Road just before Congress. (It's easy to find directions if you Google "Lake Ida Park Road.") It's open every day from sunrise to sunset and is divided into large and small dog areas, and has a very convenient dog washing station (convenient for me especially because we have never left there without Sadie half-covered in mud. But she loves it.)

Ann, Thank you for your response.  I totally agree that heat stoke is an issue and don't want anyone or any pets to get uncomfortable due to weather conditions.

I also agree about Snyder Park.  Personally we have not enjoyed it due to

its lack of cleanliness near the lake.  It smells awful, apparently a lot of

visitors don't clean up after their pets.

Love the pool idea!  Please let us know when and where it is available!

And, why don't we try to Happy Tails in two weeks, or Lake Ida where ever

that is.

Yes...parking at the beach and the hot pavement is an issue. Dudley got worn out almost as soon as we got there. I'm a Florida girl, so I don't mind the heat. And, I also understand the need for caution in dealing with the heat and the possibility of heatstroke in our doodles.

I enjoy both the beach and happy tails. Although I do relax more at the dogpark because it is fenced. We could wet down the dogs at the shower before bringing them into the area at happy tails. The dogpark at the waterways is very shady and cooler as it is on the water and also has one of those water misters to cool things off. The waterways is a neighborhood park and Ellen must be attending for it to happen there.

A possible solution could also be to meet earlier at the dogpark....just for these "dog days of summer." An option for later would be to arrange a romp at the broward county parks pools when they have it open to dogs. (the last 2 weekends before the pools close) Dudley has gone the past 2 years and it is a lot of fun and very safe. They do not have it listed as yet on their calendar.

There is also the lake at Snyder park. It is green and rather yucky and Dudley gets covered in mud. but he has a blast and I bathed him at the adjacent fenced dogpark before I took him home.

I haven't been to the lake ida dog park Becka. Where is that? I'm in Hollywood and don't mind a bit of a drive for Dudley to play.I just started a new job and my work schedule is a bit erratic. ...but I'd meet you at happy tails.

I agree that we could get far better attendance if we arrange a regular meet up date.

Wendy - you send organize for I-Dogs Doodle Group here in Broward. Would it be plausible to co-mingle the groups so that the doodles have more friends to play with?

Sadie and I go to the Lake Ida dog park every morning for a couple of hours. There is a lot of shade and a lot of water available and all of the dogs seem to be able to self-regulate in terms of taking advantage of both. Many owners bring their own water or at least their own water bowls because the communal bowl gets a little gross. (Sadie likes to drink straight from the tap so it's not as hard for me to keep her out of there.) And most owners also make sure their dogs drink if they seem too hot.

Anyway, we'd love to meet up with other dog owners at Happy Tails any time. My office is in Davie so I'm often down that way (Sadie comes to work with me occasionally).

Wendy, I am sorry you don't enjoy romps in the summer time.  Personally, we do, guess growing up in Florida the heat is almost enjoyable. Especially after living up North and hating the winter, snow and ice.  We went to the beach this past Sunday for the Romp that wasn't.  It was not a fun aftenoon.  There was no parking available, every space was filled, we had to park two blocks away and cross a busy street with the dogs.  They were limping from the hot pavement by the time we arrived at the beach and the hot sand caused me to rush the dogs to the closest surf we could reach, only to have a beach patrol come over to us to tell us we were not in the "permitted" area with the dogs which we were walking to as quickly as we could. To top it off, no one else showed up during the hour we were there.

At least Happy Tails has plently of available parking.  There are water fountains for the dogs, shade and benches for the humans, as well as a hose to bathe our pets.   And I for one, would really would enjoy a romp sooner than four months away.  So I hope you don't mind that I would

like to plan on a romp in the very near future.

I have been out ot town and saw several posts about romping this summer. It has been way too hot to be anywhere but the beach. Happy Tails is a great park for Winter romps. We should  not be going there or any other park without water during the summer. This is not healthy for our Doodles. Several years ago I took Dexter to a Dog Park in the summer for a very short time. I had to take him to the vet on the way home. He was starting to get heat stroke after only 15 minutes in the park at 930 in the morning. We should set a dedicated weekend each month for a romp. We should set a shorter time frame at the beach so we all arrive at the same time. I will not bring Dexter and Frank to any Dog Park without water until November. It's just not healty for them.

Happy Tails has 3 or 4 separated play areas. The largest area is for the
larger dogs. The others go by size, and one has training jumps. I am
always alert to safety situations and my two dogs are 1 1/2 and 3 1/2.
