Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

Congratulations HATTIE!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THESE TRAINING GROUP CGC WINNERS!  Please remember to post a picture of your Doodle whenever they complete any training designation so that we can continue to add to our collage.  If I missed anyone here, also please let me know.

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

This weeks training challenge (Willow)

Started by Stacy. Last reply by Stacy Aug 8, 2019. 10 Replies

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

No wait...until I have a solid sit stay for greetings...hold off on any fanfare. That's my FIRST goal. For Boca to sit and stay (on leash for now) while someone approaches and pets her. THEN we can celebrate!

Little Brag. 7 month old Boca learned the auto-sit as part of heel today!

We also just started stays today so I think she was trying to be very careful at the end and put herself in a short stay =)

I think Natalie should start her own group for Doodle Whisperers under 5 years old!!! I'm sure they have their own set of problems and questions!! :)

Natalie is surely talented. A smack from her is no doubt a love tap. Isn't it great that she is so comfortable around the dogs and they with her?

HaHaHa, My youngest son, Ian's first word was 'GET', and first sentence, 'Go Away'. He WAS talking to a Chocolate Lab.

Natalie would like to join this group because she's now giving Rosco and Boca commands. Namely the "Ba Ba" ("Back") command as she smacks them in the face to tell them to get out of her way/face/space. We'll have to work on the face smacking bit, but otherwise I think she's gonna be a Doodle Whisperer! (This actually started when I'd put Natalie in her car seat and Boca was already in the car. Boca would half climb into the car seat on top of Natalie and start kissing her with enthusiasm. I would push Boca back with a hand on her chest and say "Back" and then if she came back I'd put a palm up and tap her on the nose gently to remind her to back up. What Natalie learned was "smack dog on face and say Ba Ba").

Halloween night proved to be an excellent opportunity to practice down/stays and sit/stays at the door as well as "go to your bed."
