Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

Congratulations HATTIE!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THESE TRAINING GROUP CGC WINNERS!  Please remember to post a picture of your Doodle whenever they complete any training designation so that we can continue to add to our collage.  If I missed anyone here, also please let me know.

Entering a dog show

Started by Stacy. Last reply by GBK Aug 21, 2019. 32 Replies

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

This weeks training challenge (Willow)

Started by Stacy. Last reply by Stacy Aug 8, 2019. 10 Replies

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

I don't have a video, but yes I think it is a good idea. Maybe we could have a video section maybe??? Where all videos are posted. I am a very VISUAL learner. So Two Dogs on my left video. Sounds Good.
Give me a few days--Jane we are not as committed as you think. We take LOTS of days off.

Group picture? I must have missed the last time you discussed this?

I like the idea of Starlit for our next pic. She has been doing a lot of hard work recently! She's an inspiration!!! :)

And Jane-keep the faith!!! I heard on a recent "Cesar" episode that "our dogs are our teachers". I have heard similar before but it is interesting to ponder it when I'm working with Tara...or is SHE working with ME...??? Hmmmm...

Okay training groupies....We need to start thinking about our next group picture. I can't believe it's almost November. Joanne, how about Starlit?

Joanne, you and your Doodles ROCK! It was a very, very bad day for Murph and me today. He was completely "full of himself". I WILL WIN!!!!! Do you think you could upload a video....I would so love to see you walking Spud and Starlit? I know how committed you've been....you should be very proud.

Murphy, you are already a success story.

This may sound stupid to some but I am just so darn happy. I have now accomplished walking 2 miles with 2 doodles on the LEFT. For so long I did not enjoy walking my dogs or them walking me...but we all enjoyed our walk today and we looked good ( for once) doing it!

I love training.

Okay guys....I'm blushing, but "full of himself Murph" is saying "yes, I am pretty wonderful". He's been working so very hard this week. I'm very proud of my guy. In another couple of weeks....we may have a real success story!

I second Karen's statement! Kudos to Jane and Murphy for some very hard work recently!

I just want everyone to know that Jane's Murphy has been doing amazingly well and he deserves a "success" story banner , too. Jane, we won't think you are playing favorites or honking your own doodle's horn if you put Murph's name up there next, lol.

Thanks so much to all of our training experts who are so willing to share their experience and knowledge with us "novices". This is exactly what I had hoped would happen with this group. Already I have learned so much. Please know that you are helping those of us who really want our Doodles to be "all that they can be".

Congratulations, Jasper! I really think the timing of CGC depends on the dog. Guinness was very young when he passed CGC and then went on for his TDI certification. I think he was 15 months when he passed the TDI. He was a very easy dog to train. He absolutely loved training, both the classes and when we would work independently. It's just "his thing". He still loves it. He had no fear issues, so we never had to face that. I would definitely keep him in some kind of program though. Several people in our CGC class were taking it for the second time. Their dogs just need a little more exposure and maturity before taking the test. I agree it certainly doesn't hurt to take it and then a**** whether Jasper is ready for the actual test. Good luck and let us know. I'll have to say I found it to be a really fun class.
