Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

Congratulations HATTIE!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THESE TRAINING GROUP CGC WINNERS!  Please remember to post a picture of your Doodle whenever they complete any training designation so that we can continue to add to our collage.  If I missed anyone here, also please let me know.

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

Started by Stacy. Last reply by Stacy Aug 8, 2019. 10 Replies

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

Susan, Zeke, and Jasper,
IMO--Give it a try. It won't hurt a thing and does the dog really know if he did/did not pass his CGC? No harm done, plus then you know for sure the strength and weakness of the dog and can go home and work on the points the Examiner felt needed work. Starlit, of all dogs, earned her CGC in September! If She/We could work this out I am positive for all dogs and owners they can too! Go for it

At 18 months, I don't think Peri would be ready for CGC. She is pretty darn obedient in my opinion, but still has "springs" in her legs and gets distracted. I know, I need to work on that for her to get better. However, almost everyone who meets her thinks she is EXTREMELY well behaved and obedient. That makes me happy. So Susan, I think you know if Jasper is ready or not. Jane's Guinness passed at a younger age too, I think.

Hey, I didn't see that celebration. She said THANKS. Next week she finishes Intermediate. We have a nice long winter to work on all that we have learned these last 16 weeks. Now if I could just go through the bathroom door without her trying to heal. :)

Congratulation Jasper!!! I think you are the best judge of Jasper's abilities and his challenges. If your "gut feeling" is to let him mature a bit more or spend more time with obedience training before trying for the CGC than I recommend that you listen to yourself!! :)

Jasper gratuated Advanced Puppy Obedience last night! He has done very well overall and we were encouraged to go on to CGC next. At 9 months I think he still needs to mature some. His sits, downs and stays are very short. His focus is pretty good but he acts like he has springs in his bottom. Also he has a few fright issues such as shadows, loud noises and lining up close against a wall. I'm thing he would benefit from another step in obedience before the CGC. What do ya'll think?

Jane can you believe I heard the SAME "command" today from my DH!! "Tara, do you want to go outside?" She gave the same response as Murphy. Just looked at him!! Then DH looks at ME as if to say "she's not COMING!!" I wish I could keep my mouth shut like you do!! LOL!! I'll just leave you to imagine where the conversation went from that point!!! :)

I have one I have one. Starlit Spooked with a young male at class the other night. She was brought back to her heal, held her head up high and said " I'm okay. I belong here. I HEAL"!

It's time for a new "success story". Think about this week....I'm betting we've got some good things to celebrate.
