Training - Experiences, Challenges, and Mindsets

This group provides a "safe place" for members to share their experiences with training, celebrate "big and little successes" and gain insights as we encounter challenges, to support one another, and to explore how our mindset affects our training.

QUESTIONS REGARDING PUPPY BEHAVIORAL CONCERNS (less than 4 mos of age) are better placed in the Main Forum or the Puppy Madness Groups.  Once our Doodles reach the age of four to five months, they are ready to begin their obedience training, and this is the place to share experiences.

I STARTED A NEW CGC COLLAGE, BECAUSE WHEN I ADDED JACK DOODLE AND JAKE THE PICTURES BECAME TOO SMALL TO REALLY SEE....SO NOW WE HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM FOR MORE CGC GRADS!!!!!

Congratulations HATTIE!!!!!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL THESE TRAINING GROUP CGC WINNERS!  Please remember to post a picture of your Doodle whenever they complete any training designation so that we can continue to add to our collage.  If I missed anyone here, also please let me know.

Entering a dog show

So, the Rally people suggested to me that I should enter Maggie in the show that's coming up at the end of August. They have Rally on Friday, so we could actually do that one day. But I'm looking at…Continue

This weeks training challenge (Willow)

Started by Stacy. Last reply by Stacy Aug 8, 2019. 10 Replies

This week Willow has decided that sitting for exam is terrifying. We've practiced. She will sit and let me go over her like a champ. Feet, ears, tail, teeth. No problem. But when the instructor bent…Continue

I am really feeling energized by the discussions here. Have been reviewing several things (like doorbell training) that Gavin learned a long time ago, but I have not been practicing. Happy to say everything is coming back quickly and we are really gelling. Thanks everyone for the inspiration. I must continue to expect more and work harder.

I think this is a great group. Enjoyed reading inappropriate greeting at the door. We have the same problem.

Shelby is a star.... so cute! Love this idea of the rotating photo!

Photos need to be about square or else things on the edge (whether the tall or wide edge) will get chopped off.

Jane..... good point - I hadn't thought about the thumbnail version of the photo! I like the idea of rotating the photo.... cropping it is fine. Just remember the redhead is my Shelby :o)

I really love this photo. My concern is only that when it's in such a small space we'll lose the two Doodles...because they're so far apart. If I try to crop it down I'll only be able to get one of the dogs, which may be okay. What does everyone else think? I was also thinking that maybe we could change the picture once a month with the Doodle generating the "greatest breakthrough". Thoughts on that idea? Christine, how wold you feel about my cropping this and using it for our first month?

I don't think my big baby, Gusapoo is going to be to happy that I joined this group.

Glad to see this group. Starting off with Puppy Pre-School this weekend for a little puppy socialization and basics, and then want to delve into Clicker training.

We are going to look into structured training again once the cottage closes at the end of October and I can't wait. Gavin really needs proofing and so do I. I really wanted to do agility, but it's offered on a bad night for me. The last two days (on your inspiration Jane) we have gone to the park and did our own little bit of agility by going through the play equipment, tunnels and up and over park benches and picnic tables. Gavin seemed thrilled with himself and my reaction. Now, if I could just get him to jump into the back of my SUV on his own accord.
