About Me:: I am a stay at home mom of two grade school boys and wife to a great hubby. In my pre-kid years I was a high school English teacher for six years. I am very involved in the boys' school activities, gardening, cooking, generally making the house a home. Someday I will sew a quilt.

What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!: Maggie is a Standard F1 Goldendoodle. She comes home to us July 26, 2011. Her birthday is June 2.

Where did you get your doodle(s)?: Breeder

Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?: I have never really been a dog person. However, my aunt and uncle have a Goldendoodle who is beyond adorable. Spending a weekend with Cooper, he taught me how to love doodles. I don't want any other kind of dog (or animal) for that matter.

Also it will be interesting to have someone in the house whose hair is more high maintenance than my own. :) That's saying something!

What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?: I'm really looking forward to all the training. I find that all to be fascinating. Plus, I just want to be able to do my stuff all around town with my little sweetheart. This will be a great learning experience for my two boys too.

Who grooms your doodle(s)?: I've got a groomer in mind when the time comes.

Favorite Doodle Products?: I splurged on a Tiger Dreamz blanket. Who knows how long it will last. But I couldn't resist. I love the Poochie Bells. I will probably get a Les Pooches brush from Doodle Country. There are a lot of interesting treats that my favorite pet shop sells. We will have to see what works best and what my puppy will like.

Maggie is home! So much to share

Finally catching my breath to post an update on bringing home our sweetheart Maggie. There is so much to tell!

We flew home on a Southwest flight from San Diego to Oakland airport. Let me tell you that is the way to go. If anyone wants details on how I did it, just google Dog Jaunt and look up taking your pet on a plane. Awesome advice and it was perfect. She was quiet the whole trip. I didn't go to any classes or buy any books I just kept watching the kikopup videos on youtube over and over and over until I 'got it' I used it for crate training, potty training, sit, wait, leave it and touch. Nowadays I don't need to use it so much but occasionally I take it out and start again. It's all about timing and it definitely works. Best of luck.

We brought him home at 7 weeks and cannot believe how completely wonderful he is - we are in doodle love and beyond! It sounds like you're doing all good things with her .... one thing I did pretty much from day l and am sooo glad about is brushing from day l. I do it each day at same time, he lies on a cushion on my lap. I started by 'fake' (back side of brush on fur) brushing (of course he checked the brush out and was mouthing and biting at it) - when he stopped mouthing I immediately gave him a delicious treat and big but calm praise. Every now and then I'd brush his back with the actual brush side. It takes lots and lots of repeated treats/praise but within a week or two it got so it took very few treats and he actually fell asleep during the brushing!!! Brushing is a big requirement for doodles and the earlier you get started probably better!
