I recently lost my father in November and in December I lost my 15 year old dog, Misty Mae... The two losses entwined themselves in my grief.
The recent decision to bring a doodle pup into my life has perked me up but I am scared. I'm afraid of change. It hurts. It literally hurts. Many thoughts come into my head and heart. Will I groom properly? Do I have the energy? Will we bond?
My Misty Mae was a shelter dog who required very little maintenance other than vet checks. We…

I will be sharing my life with a doodle puppy some time this summer. He/she will be born near July 4th! I can't wait! I plan to share our experiences.
My profile picture is a picture of one of the breeder's first puppies. This week I will be meeting the puppy's mom, dad and another sibling. Soooo excited!

Last week I had to babysit my grandson and leave the dogs at home. It has come to pass that I have to try and conceal my suitcases and packing from Fudge in the hopes that I can accomplish things faster. From the time she sees the suitcases until the time I leave, I have to contend with her stares whenever I look up and her constant shadowing of me around every corner. She gets clingier to me at night and I feel so guilty about the worry I see on her face. Vern is less in touch with my…

Yesterday was Harley's 3 month birthday and his big surprise was conquering the stairs! Yup. He went down them for the first time!

Our wonderful Ruby is now 7 months old and continues to bring so much love and humor into our lives. She is a great traveler and enjoys meeting people everywhere. She loves babies, toddlers, kids of every age. She stops on the trail to say hi. She can't get enough of people.
Okay, that's fine--but she's mostly timid or uninterested in other dogs. We took her to puppy socials when she was younger and she mostly hid under a bench. We went to a doodle meet-up yesterday and she hung out…

It's been an exciting week. Paz was allowed by a New York State Supreme Court judge to accompany the kidnapping victim he had been supporting, into the courtroom and remain with her during the entire sentencing hearing of the man who had kidnapped her, and her two year old child. He remained next to her when she confronted the man, and gave her impact statement. When we arrived at the NY State Supreme Court, we were surrounded by flashing cameras and reporters who had gotten word that a…

I really wanted to take some cute outdoor shots today for the fifth week photos, but it rained on and off--so I got them outside briefly for head shots and some play--of course, the grass was wet and they were a mess quickly, but still cute!
I am using a new litter box system with these pups--I use a kitty litter called Yesterday's news and I sprinkle it on puppy pads (a large area of them) for the first few weeks after their eyes open--when they are using the pads consistently, I…

Our bed broke last night, which might not seem like that big of a deal, unless I tell you it was the middle of the night, we were sound asleep, when John’s side ended up on the floor. I can tell you, from firsthand experience now, that having your bed make a loud noise and crash works better than any snooze alarm I have ever had in waking a person up. The thing is the bed has been telling us something was wrong for quite some time, but since John’s motto has always been, “let’s pretend…

Charlie is our rescue mini goldendoodle...
I heard Charlie barking non-stop and though that he wanted to go see the chickens whom he loves. However something seemed strange about the tone of his barking.
As I rounded the corner into the patio by my kitchen door, I saw that he was barking at the shoes I had…

Getting cuter by the day! Momma dog is still so great with them and now gets into the playing--so gentle with them and they love it!
These are their four week portraits, starting with the 6 girls...but the breeder requested one more hat photo, so I will start with that one--too cute!…

Not really, yes tomorrow is my 75th B-day and yes, we are getting 11-dogs. But, we won't have them with us permanently.
Maltese Rescue California is on a list of rescues who will get dogs from breeders when the breeders are over their allotted number of dogs or if the breeder is not up to Animal Control standards. Animal control would rather have the breeder turn the dogs over to a rescue, like us, than confiscate the dogs and try to have them adopted from the…
