The Morning After The Night Before

And so it came to pass that on the sixth night we went out for the first time and had a ball!

Yesterday was eventful enough and started out with a cut paw which left Doodle blood traces around the kitchen and on my couch.   Following some DIY nursing care and lots of advice from my friends here we settled down and continued the day as planned.  Slight change of plan as I had intended to take Riley to the football pitch but of course hadn't reckoned on it actually being in…

Doodle changes personality of Cave Man

To give a little background to my life for the pat three weeks let me indulge here;

For the past three weeks I have got up at 6.30am and after playing, feeding and walking Riley I have donned my best clothes, put on my full makeup and added my high heels to give the impression that I am a smart city woman with a passion for fashion.  I have then driven to my showroom where I have entertained all the buyers who have come to the showroom where I have taken orders for the latest fashions…

Water Boy

It's been an eventful couple of days!  Yesterday was worming day and I mis-read the dosage as it was different on the outside of the box to the inside and to cut a long story short I over dosed Riley by 3ml...  It wouldn't have been too bad except my partner decided that it was the day to go to buy a new lawnmower.  Not thinking, I put Riley in the back of the car where he settled quite happily... He is usually a great traveler, fast forward to half an hour later and he threw up all over the…

Sunday Musings (Kidnapped?)

I can't quite believe what a super puppy Riley is.  He has a certain look that gives the impression that he is wise beyond his very young age.  He comes everywhere, loves children, has not attempted to jump up on anyone, sitting for attention and lies under every table in every frequent coffee shop stop that I make.  He sits in his seatbelt in the car and settles for the journey.  He is practically house trained and sleeps through the night.  I think it is testement to the Breeder who told…

Sunday Musings

It seems like Riley has been a part of our family forever.  It's not even two weeks but in that time our lives have been turned upside in a wonderful way.  Our children want to visit and friends we haven't seen in ages are arriving on a daily basis and a new dimension has been added to our lives.  As you know I have prepared well for Riley.

During the week a young person posted that she had taken on too much when she got her puppy.  The discussion was written after  only after one day…

Sunday Musings or (what a week!)

It seemed like the wait was a long one and you were all there with me while I posted a myriad of questions, chipped in with comments when I couldn't keep quiet, stressed about size of crates, brushes, combs, potty and clicker training...the list was endless and in fact is only starting.

The story of my epic journey to bring Riley home is well known by now and is paling into the distant past already.  Riley has been part of our family for four whole days now!  My house looks like a bomb…

From Scotland to Ireland. Riley Comes Home

Forgive this post if it has the hallmarks of a rambling oddball but I'm putting it down to happy exhaustion.  I crept out during partner snore pauses)  of the cottage at 2.30 am to make the 7 am sailing from Northern Ireland  which is a three and a half hour drive from home.  The sailing was calm and I slept for a half hour.  Then I drove and drove and drove, through Glasgow and Edinburgh and high up to the north of Scotland very near the Famous St Andrews Golf Course.   I poured a whole…

Sunday Musings

[I just had a lovely message from my Breeder telling me all about the puppies and how she is going to allocate them at 6 weeks.  Photo's coming very soon she said.  I told her I would blog the journey home and the early weeks and she is delighted about that].

Since it is Mother's Day in the US I thought I would tell you some stories about my eldest child Jessica who is now 30 years old.  These memories are as clear now as when they happened.  This is…

Sunday Musings

As I continue what seems like the long wait until I get my Labradoodle puppy home I got to thinking about why I wanted one so much right now at this time in my life.  I posed a question the other day wondering if my age has anything to do with this need and lots of you have responded with some interesting thoughts on the subject.

It's no surprise to me that this wonderful community that I have joined is full of amazing women and a few good men.  It's no surprise to me at all that you…

Musings

Forgive me missing my Sunday Musings but the Bank Holiday here in Ireland had me by the seaside in a Log Cabin with friends having a barbecue.  They have a new Jack Russell puppy, Bella who at 16 weeks was the star attraction.  We took her for a long walk on the beach and over cliffs to the little port though we did carry her for a good portion of the way when she got tired.

Sunday reminded me of my own childhood Summers which were spent in a caravan park in County Wicklow.  To our…

Sunday Musings

'It's either me or the dog'

When I had my own children naturally I wanted to instill in them a love for nature, animals and of course pets.  We had a gorgeous GS when Jessica was small and then along came Rosie.  Six years later along came Sophie and three years later our first Birman Cat Banjo.  Banjo is now in the latter years of his life and an amazing cat, not like other…

'Don't Tell Dad'

Twenty seven years ago I had a Four year old daughter Jessica, a baby son Jordan, a husband and a German Shepherd Chris.  tragedy struck our family when my baby son died, suddenly and unexpectedly on my first day back to work.  Jordan was 15 and a half weeks old and in the care of a lovely French Au Pair for just over two hours when I returned home to find him in his pram, not breathing and lifeless.  He was still warm and my frantic drive home was the result…

Sunday Musings

My Girls are all grown up now and I'm so excited to be planning my new puppy which will bring a new dimension to our family life.  I'm at the stage where I have now done all the planning I can and am just waiting for my new Puppy to be born safely.  I have met lots of new friends here and am constatnly thinking back to my own childhood which of course shaped and prepared me for adult life.  Here is another memory that flooded back during the week and one that I hadn't thought of for many…

Sunday Musings

I am now surrounded by Puppy stuff, Crates X 2. A stairgate, bed, bowls, feed, toys.  I have checked out and decided on a Vet, Puppy Creche, Dog Park, Classes.  I have decided which grooming tools to get and have bought the basics.  I have written a Socialization plan list to tick off and have the money saved and ready.  So what to do now?  I seem to spend quite a bit of time here on DK trawling all the interesting information, pictures and above all videos which are so good to look at.  The…

Musings Part 2

Preparing for a new puppy has churned up lots of memories of past puppies and other animals that I have shared my life with so far.  My Maltese Terrier Snowy came to me in 2007, in a most unusual way.  In the Summer of 2007 my ex husband  and I sent our yourngest daughter to her cousins in Vancouver for the holidays.  Chloe who was 14 at the time spent three weeks in Summer Camp in the USA and returned to Vancouver to spend a few days with my Mum.  Precious Grandma/Grandaughter time.…

Sunday Musings

With Earthquakes, tsunami's and a virtual torrent of news battering our news screens in real time it's hard to absorb all the horror which is why I find myself checking in here from time to time.  A sanctuary where I can focus on new friends and all things Doodle.  My passion for dogs, and these dogs in particular started when I was a small child.  My first puppy was a Doodle type.  We called him a Terroodle as we didn't know who his daddy was.  He had that curly poodle coat and the…
