Mighty Dog Nation has posted the Dogumentary
! Mater loved watching it, getting his first glimpse along with us at the World Premiere Party in his honor! Now that the other two dogs have had their premiere parties you can watch the movie and the parties by clicking here. We had so much fun with this, and the party was great. Thank you to everyone who voted for Mater and to… Continue

The Premiere Party was a blast and Mater really loved it! The limo right might have been his favorite, but he had a great time with all of the people at the party too. Great friends, Purina was wonderful as were their associates that put on the event. It was…

I appreciate the comments and suggestions on Mater's itching. We give him a special oil supplement with breakfast and salmon oil with dinner, so I don't think there is much more we can do with those additives. However, I've never tried the primrose oil so will get some and see how that works. He is bathed only every 10 weeks and they are aware of his itching so use appropriate shampoos and conditioners. Poor dog has torn out so much coat now in the winter, and it will all be back in time for a…

Some of you may remember me complaining about Mater itching all last winter, pulling his coat out in clumps. It finally stopped after we tried various diet changes, benedryl, extra exercise - the whole gamut of possible "cures". Over the summer his thin spots filled in and he was the same hairy boy as always. This year I paid closer attention - and I think I found the cause. The moment we turned the heat on in October the itching began again, non-stop. It would appear that he suffers the same…

Yvonne N had posted on my page after Mater's TV spot so, as I'm sure we all do, I went to her page to see more of her doodle. While there I read her Nov 30 blog about "no personality=no doodles" and some of the many comments. I had to laugh as a few were really funny!
But then it struck me just how much we ARE a community! Our doodles do bring us together and create a true bond. I was thinking that we could probably even post on DoodleKisses where we were headed on vacations and we'd…

After all this time, the 30 second spot featuring Mater and the two other winners of the Might Dog Nation video contest seems almost anti-climactic. He's shown shaking off water from being soaking wet, and then happily wagging his tail. It will be interesting to see the entire dog-umentary, as it seems that all of the filming will be edited down to about 5 minutes! The "commercial" - which airs twice during the National Dog Show on NBC following the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade - is really a…

What an exciting and amazing day - and exhausting! On Monday the film crew and producer came buy, along with people from the publicity company and Purina. They played with Mater and took some video while they filled us in on the plan. Then yesterday they arrived at 8 am, along with Lighting and Grip, the animal humane observer and the marketing company (about 20 people in all), and started the day. Mater worked like a pro for them. It was really fun to watch. Since Tom is Mater's obedience…

Mater seems to be feeling better. It seems that every time we check his heartbeat it is around 60-64 bpm, so hopefully that is just his normal rate. The vet hasn't suggested any further testing for now, so we'll just continue to keep an eye on him. I'm not sure why, but he does seem to be eating better the past week or so and more like his goofy old self. I almost wonder if all the rain was causing depression! (Talk about anthropomorphizing..) There doesn't seem to be much explaination for the…

Mater seems to be doing okay, but tires so easily. His heart rates seems to vary from 50 bpm to a little over 60 bpm. We'll get him back to the vet for more investigation after the holiday weekend.

For everyone we talked to last night, I wanted to let you know that Mater's blood tests came back excellent. Everything looks exactly as it should. We still have some concern about the slow heartbeat. When I checked him this morning it was only about 45 bpm, much lower than the 60 bpm that is considered the low average for a dog his size. It's really hard to find his pulse, which doesn't help us. His heartbeat also seemed quite irregular, as Tom had experienced the other day when he was…

Mater did his first therapy visit tonight. He was really a hit with the kids. It is a support group for children who are grieving a loss. I learned a few things to watch for though. He was a little stressed at the new situation, then really excited when other dogs came. He wanted to play and it was hard to keep him calm until the kids came. When they did, he was really good with them and they loved him. However, he was a little to "hands (paws) on" and mouthy. Some of the boys started wrestling…

Mater started itching last fall and hasn't stopped yet! Pounds of Benadryl and a shot of cortisone haven't done more than slow him down a bit. He itches mostly behind his front lets and on his ears. I believe these are standard allergy locations. We started with changing his food and we are on our 4th or 5th try now with Taste of the Wild High Prairie. We've dried Premium Edge Skin and Coat and also their Lamb and Rice, as well as Blue Buffalo's lamb and rice, and still he itches. Now I'm not…

Yesterday afternoon we noticed what looks like someone took a pair of scissors to Mater's ear! The hair is cut off to just below his ear tip and on side of his head! I't so bizarre. Tom was with him all day and has no idea how it could have happend. I might have to trim his other ear just so he doesn't look so lopsided. Strangest thing. They were only at the park and at Agility class, then ran a few errands. We looked all over the yard to see if there was anything sharp enough to cut it if he…

It's 7 below 0 this morning and I can't get Mater to stay in the house! I keep setting the timer for 5 minutes and then I MAKE him come in. He loves the cold. He loves the snow. Silly fridgi-doodle!
