Crazy Doodle Lady's Blog (6)

I can't believe it has been a month since I picked Dexter up from the breeder. What a month it has been! It's amazing to see how much a puppy can change in just a short time.  It took 3 weeks to break him of his early morning wake up calls. Now he's a second shifter just like his mom and is happy sleeping in every morning. No more waking up with the sun!  He no longer cries when I wake up and now patiently waits for me to let him out of his crate and take him outside.

So today was the day I was going to meet Dexter for the first time.  After about four hours of sleep I got in my car to make the three hour drive to see my boy.  My three hour drive turned into six after the main road was shut down from an accident plus traffic galore.  My eyes were blurry, my legs stiff and my brain fogged but I finally made it!  Time to meet my little man!

Bear got his first short haircut friday night. I was a nervous wreck. A month ago I took him into Petco to get his food when I was approached by a groomer. She asked what kind of Doodle he was and played with him for awhile. She told me she grooms about 30 Doodles and would love to be his groomer. I figured it wouldn't hurt to have someone who knew the breed well.

I was just getting ready to head to bed (got to get up at 4am) when I noticed Bear trying to lick his incision. Somehow my too smart for his own good dog found a way past the cone and removed his stitches. I called the vet right away to let him know. He told me to bring him in first thing in the morning so they can clean the area and re-stitch it. They will give him a larger cone and evaluate him throughout the day. After a very long day Bear is home from his surgery. He bounced into the lobby ready to go. I knew ahead of time to ask for a cone since he loves to lick himself. Sure enough as soon as I took it off tonight he tried to lick his incision. He is the same energetic dog he was yesterday. I can't believe how alert and active he is. The poor guy is so hungry and thirsty but the vet told me not to give him any food or water until tomorrow morning. Not sure how well that will work out.

After work I decided to take Bear for a walk on the boardwalk. We live just down the road from Lake Michigan and have a beautiful place to walk. Bear loves the boardwalk. He gets to see all the people, dogs, and of course ducks!



Bear met a GoldenDoodle named Gordie on his walk today. So nice to see him next to a full grown Doodle. He has lots of dog friends but we've never come across another Doodle. (Hi Gordie's Mom!)
