I think we got down the crate thing. For the last two nights she just goes in the crate ( okay, I put her in the crate and hold her back and close the door) and lies down without making a sound. The first time it happened, I thought I had gone deaf and was having a stroke because all I heard was a beating heart but then I realized it was her heart thing in the crate. Last night, she only cried to be let out at 2 and slept till 545am. Today, we took an 1.5 nap, she in her crate and I in the bed.
So just when I think things are going great. She runs in her doggy playpen and pees in it. Thankfully, it has an attached plastic floor. It doesn't matter if she just was out and went pee.. its like she saves a dime size just to share. She will run in there with a toy and runs in circles inside it dragging the toy. (picture those motorcycle guys in that tube thing- I keep waiting for her to sgtart spinning up the sides). I am grateful that if she has accidents in there instead of the wood floors. I just clean it up and spray a solution of vinegar and water in there. I haven't corrected since she has only been home 6 days and I wanted to get the crate thing down first. I am concerned that if I remove the play pen she will go on the floors and this is a rental. When I take her out and she goes on the grass I make a big deal and give her treats. She is smart and when we come in she sits for her treat. When she goes in the playpen , I just clean it up and not say anything. Any suggestions?

Natures Miracle Urine Destroyer works well. You need something that will eliminate the smell. Vinegar and water has never worked for me.
I was laughing when you said you were waiting for your puppy to start spinning on the sides because I can so picture that.. LOL! I found a really great article on cleaning up dog urine.. http://www.howtocleanthings.com/how-to-clean-dog-urine.htm
Also a PDF on a 7 day potty training schedule using a crate - http://www.dreamydoodles.com/puppies/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Hou...
Good luck with your new pup! Just remember it won't last forever.
