Peri's Intuition in the Face of Danger/Sickness

Last night we had scare.  Let me preface this by saying my DH is OK!

Around 9:30 pm, DH lost his sight in the periphery of his eyes, his remaining vision became blurred and he was disoriented and very "off".  I had never seen him this way (he does not have migraines) and started to WebMD the symptoms.  Peri immediately came up to him and started whining, put her head on his lap and tried to calm him down. It was so odd.  She knew something was up. Taquito ran to his crate, which he always does when he is worried about something.

Basically, I decided to take him to the ER based on Peri's odd reaction to him.  She was passed out on the other side of the house and the second he was concerned, she was there!  Putting her paw on him and looking at me and whining.

Long story short, I had a looooong night in the ER.  Of course they tested for stroke (in a 30 yr old?  was my question), clotting, etc...all came back A-OK.  So, after lots of morphine, bloodwork, liquids, etc...we came home at 5am.  And nothing was ever officially diagnosed, but they think it was a migraine (headache didn't come on until after midnight).

Thank goodness for my mother, who picked the dogs up at 12 am and let them stay with her. They would have been morose this morning and all out of sorts.  This is why I live 2 miles from them! :)

I picked them up at 11am today and they ran back, well SPRINTED, to the bedroom, where Conor was sleeping. Peri literally scaled the bed post and sat on his head and started licking him.  I. LOVE. MY. DOODLE.

Isn't it amazing how intuitive they are?

Ally, I have just gotten home and I am trying to catch up on a week of Doodle Kisses, I am so glad that your husband is ok, and you absolutely did the right thing by going to the E.R..  Strokes can come at any age, young old, children or older people. Anurythims (sp) are another thing, thank goodness he is ok, and yes his symptoms can well be migrains...My sister gets them where she is blinded in one eye, and blurred vision in the other,  She gets a feeling of being paralyzed on one side too...And as far as Lady Peri, it is so amazing how attune they are to us...Good girl Peri, and Taquito, bless his little heart, he was worried too...Amazing, I just love how animals are so attuned to humans...Hope hubby is feeling better, but I would make an appointment with a neurologist for further testing and conformation.  It is something that needs to be checked...(sry, it is the old nurse in me, I don't mean to intrude on what u should do, lol,)

It never ceases to amaze me HOW much I learn from you DKers. Both dog and human related.  I've always just called the type headaches I get "sick" headaches bc I don't have alot of pain, but it happens w/ too much bright light, motion flickers on highway, too much noise for too long.  And guess what!  My DEAF daughter gets these when there is too much stimulation (unidentified noise) usually at the end of a long day.  Hmmmm. So Peri, just look at all the people you impacted with your intuition.

Awwies.  My spine is tingling.  Yeah Peri, you too Taquito.  30 or not, I'm so glad you just upped and went to ER.  It could have SO EASILY have been something dire.  And I'd still be vigilant.  But how absolutely cool that your dogs were so happy to see your DH.  AND they knew he wasn't sick or they wouldn't have just on his head.  Man, these guys are pretty sensitive.  Eerie almost.  Thank God everything ok.  Can you tell I'm the mom of a 28 yr old that would have had a stroke if I knew my child, heart, world was thinking of NOT going to ER with something wrong in head area.  Oy!!  You kids . . .

How scary!  Best wishes to your hubby for a quick recovery.  Our dogs know a lot more than all of us sometimes!  =)

I'm glad to hear your husband is doing better, Allyson.  I know first hand how scary something like this is.

It's amazing how Peri sensed something and wanted to comfort her dad.  I hope all goes well at the doctor appointment.
