I have been waiting anxiously for the pumpkin season to resume due to the shortages we all felt last year. I guess I have never been so aware of pumpkin in the stores as I have over this past year. It always seemed readily available whenever I needed it for the holidays, and otherwise,I never gave it any thought.

I don't even know if pumpkin is carried in the stores year round! Never noticed! So with the shortage of 2010 fresh in my mind, and the memories of going store to store to store and some DK'r's even ordering online, I have decided to not take any chances.

So ever since the first can was sited on the grocery store shelves about 6 weeks ago, I have been buying up pumpkin. Usually only 2 at a time, but since it's been on sale, I will get 4-6 cans at a time and even resorted to the BIG cans (just for a little added security).

Have I gone over the deep end on this? I would be embarassed to give you a count of how many I now have as I feel that a film crew will be coming in any minute with a therapist to do a "Pumpkin Hoarding Intervention".

Am I alone here or will anyone else admit to this sad sickness? Maybe you even have some insight into how stores stock pumpkin year round so I can relax my viligiant effort of stocking up. HELP!!!

The Pumpkin Hoarder.

I just went to Target tonight and lo and behold there were only 2 lonely cans of pumpkin left on the shelf. My pumpkin hoarding addiction kicked in full steam as I could feel the fear of shortage rearing it's ugly head. I just couldn't help myself. And they were on sale. What's a girl to do? I think I am a lost cause.

It's good to know that Whole Foods carry canned pumpkin. There isn;t one very close, but certainly it would be worth the trip if the need arises.

I love canned pumpkin for the doodles, too! Whole Foods usually has lots of canned pumpkin of their "in store" brand.

Nancy, Really? Never? Oh My!!!! You might have to cross the border and smuggle some into California. Oops, would that make you an illegal pumpkin smuggler?

Thanks for the reminder. I will check my store shelves for canned (not pie) pumpkin. I have NEVER been able to find it.

You are right, after last year not being able to find pumpkin I have been getting a can or two every time I go to the store. You just never know when you will need it. Where do we sign up for the program? ;-)

LOL, too funny! I am an ice tea hoarder! I really like Lipton unsweetened tea and the stores NEVER carry enough. It's also not usually available in the winter. Whenever I find it, I usually buy 4 or 5, 8 packs! I can make it myself, and do but I like the ready made stuff for on the go.

I am not a pumpkin hoarder, but I do know that my grocery store here in TX does carry 100% pure pumpkin year round. It is right there with the pie filling. However, your e-mails and mention of the pumpkin shortage may cause me to buy a can or two to have as a back up!

"Pumpkin anonymous" We can start a Pumpkin Anonymous Recovery group!!! I bet there are more of us out there that just haven;t admitted that they have a pumpkin problem or are too embarassed to say so. We can come up with a 5 step program of recovery.
1. Admit that we are powerless over the "Great Pumpkin"...that our dogs stools have become unmanageble without it
2. Come to believe that a Pumpkin Power greater than ourselves can restore us to stool normalcy
3. Made a searching and fearless inventory of our pantry
4. Admitted to the "Great Pumpkin", another human being and all DK doodles the exact nature of our hoarding wrongs
5..Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we will carry this message to other pumpkin addicts, and to practice these principles in all our affairs

Disclaimer: No disrespect intended for anyone going through a real recovery program. Just covering my butt here.

I always have the urge to hoard pumpkin when I see it! I use it both for Darwin and baking so I feel like I need twice as much as normal people... LOL.
