Rooney has been a little velcro pup from the day that we first got him, I had never had a dog like that before and it took a little getting used to.  O.K. it drove me nuts for a little while but then I adjusted.  For those of you that don't have a velcro puppy let me give you the flavor.  I'm on DK and pup is playing right near my feet, licking my feet or sleeping by my feet.  I get up to get more coffee to stay awake so that I can DK longer and puppy follows me into the kitchen.  Coffee in hand I decide to detour past the bathroom before getting back on DK, puppy follows along and happily tries to steal the tp out of my hand.  Should velcro pup actually fall asleep - do not think that this will stop him from following you.  Oh no.  He might actually be sound asleep but his little radar must go off it I get up and move.  I have tried many times to tip toe stealth like away but he gets up follows, lays back down and repeat, repeat, repeat.  You get the picture.  Until today!!!!  DH is home for a brief stop over (yes that is what we are these days) before he heads out to China again on Monday.  We are trying to get the garage organized enough that both the Z and the Puppy Hauler 2011 will fit in there.  So I'm doing laundry in and out to the garage, in the kitchen, etc. when all of a sudden I realize that I don't hear the pitter patter of those little feet - where is Rooney?  I know he isn't in the garage, so I walk through the house looking, out to the lani, in the l.r. and all of a suddenly I'm hit with a sense of pure panic - could Rooney have somehow gotten out of the house or lani?  I round the corner about ready to start screaming his name when I come upon Rooney on the bathroom floor.  I rush over to him because I figure that my velcro puppy is dead or dying - he has never stopped following before.  I check him over and guess what for the FIRST TIME EVER the boy was sound asleep and let me leave a room without him!  I realize that some of you will not see what a huge deal this is . . . but if you have a velcro puppy you will.  My boy is just over 7 months old and he is growing up - a velcro pup no more.  Rooney doodle you rock buddy.

We have velcro dogs!  Our saving grace is that there are two of us to follow so it isn't always one person that gets followed.  This afternoon I was cleaning and putting our Easter decorations - up the stairs, down the stairs, into this room and back - I had 4 dogs (one is visiting while my dd is out of town) following every move - try not to trip over one or the other!

we call our velcro pup..."shadow" as in "me and my...." 17 months old and he doesn't let me out of his sight EVER - It always makes me laugh when I'm walking in the woods with him offleash and I have a moment where I think "where is he?" and I yell like a crazy person, only to look behind me and see that he is right next to me!!!! ha

Aw, Rooney you are adorable. Darwin is not a velcro dood, he can't be bothered to move just because I got up. :-)

Way to go, Rooney!! Vern and Fudge are the first dogs I have ever had that were NOT velcro dogs. Rooney is growing up or else he was really tired from watching you work so hard :)

OH I see the huge deal in this. Duncan is also a Velcro dog. He is now 2 and will actually stay on the couch in the living room every so often when i go upstairs to the bedroom or to my office for a bit. But it's such a rare occurence that i always think he must be sick.

Hey Rooney, your BFF Rua here!  I, too, am a VELCRO puppy.  Just like you, I LOVE my Momma and have to be right with her.  I really admire how you are venturing a bit away from your Momma and growing up.  I need a bit of help in that area.  Momma went and tried to take a bath last night (BY HERSELF).  She shut the doors to the bedroom and to the bathroom.  I didn't like it one bit.  Finally Papa opened the doors to the bedroom and the doors to the bathroom and brought me in to see my Momma.  I was so glad she was still home and hadn't left.

So, Papa goes downstairs but didn't bother to shut the gate so I was able to go back upstairs.  I jumped at and jumped at and jumped at the doors to get into the bedroom (double doors that open into the room)!  Well, the double doors that go into the bathroom wouldn't open that way...so I just kept jumping and jumping and jumping on them, making all kinds of noise until they opened...and surprise...there was my Momma!  I was SOOO happy!   Momma wasn't mad at me...but she did go downstairs and ask my Papa why he didn't shut the gate.  Oh well...Momma really doesn't like relaxing in a tub (this is the second time in the past week she has ATTEMPTED it)...she'll learn.

p.s.  Momma sends hugs to you and a hello to your Momma!

Jane.... I can relate!  Shelby was a velcro puppy and I would say 90% of the time now at a year and almost 5 months.... Shelby is still the Velcro dog - although her velcro radius has increased to about 5 feet.  However - If I get up and change rooms.... 90% of the time - she still follows.  I love it!   Rooney is adorable.... :o)

It wouldn't matter how asleep Rooney was - if I moved, so did he - I just kept thinking how awful that he never just relaxed enough to realize that he didn't have to be next to me 24/7, that I could leave the room and would really come back.  I had decided that this was just who he was but now I'm thinking that as he matures he'll need to velcro less.  It was funny though cause I was starting to panic - lol.
