Vern (Vernors) is One Today

On January 10, 2011, our little Vern will be one year old. There was a time in my life that I declared that we were not getting any more dogs. It didn't take long for me to change my mind and I started searching for our next dog. Along came Fudge and we fell head over heels in love with her, but then I got it in my head that two dogs might be better than one.  How very lucky we are that our second dog is Vern. He has filled our lives with joy and his antics never fail to leave a smile on our faces.

 

OK, I admit on this day, I was not smiling:

 

Anyways, I drove to Rhode Island (almost 400 miles) to pick him up and worried all the way home that Fudge might not like him and that the transition from one to two dogs would be really hard. When we got home, Fudge started barking and Vern was petrified. He made these horrible sounds and peed all over. What a great start, I thought. We had to take my friend (who made the trip to RI with me) home, so we loaded everyone back into the van. By the time, we got back home everyone was calmer and within a short time Vern was jumping on top of Fudge. At bedtime, they were still playing and having a great time.

 

Fudge, from day one, has been wonderful with Vern. She is protective of him and has taught him so much, sometimes more than we want him to know :) We were happy that he reserved his puppy biting for Fudge and not us, but she tolerated it all with patience and gentleness and still seems to love us. He absolutely loves Fudge and they can play for hours.  We have never regretted our decision to get a second dog and cannot imagine our life without both our dogs. The only one who wishes she has never heard of Labradoodles is our cat, Princess.
