Lucy and Sophie here.   Mom has been mean lately.  She will not let us bark at anything outside the windows.  Not the trash man, the dogs next door, the mail man, or Ricco or Brody when they walk past, Nothing!  She makes us get on our pillows and do a down stay.  Not that that isn't bad enough, but on Monday she put us in a down stay and then about 10 mins later we heard her tell Dad good bye, I'll see you in a little while and she walks right past us .......  we just looked at her like where the heck are you going ..... Dogs in a down stay here ...... hello!  We try to do our part, but someone has gotta teach her she needs to release us at some point.  A dog can't stay in a down stay forever!  Can anyone help us, please?  We saw where someone was talking about "Teaching an old dog new tricks", do you think you can teach an "Old Mom New Tricks"!

Hey at least your mom doesn't throw a noisy, rattley thing in your general direction when you bark like my mom does.  She doesn't seem to get it that I can't allow other dogs to walk past my without greeting them.

Lucy and Sophie, we totally understand where you are coming from.  We thought we were being good guard dogs when we barked at the man taking our treasures at the curb but mom and dad both get upset with our barks!  We have big manly barks like Murphy so we are sure to scare those trash men away if mom and dad would only let us, but no, we have to get out of the window and stay quiet.  And in the yard, those squirrels deserve to be barked at for teasing us...the only time we get quiet around them is when we are sneaking up on 'em.  I think my mom and dad need a vacation somewhere warm and sunny...maybe you could send your mommmy too and we could have a doodle romp at your house with just us doodles.  Boy, could we have a barking good time with no rules!

Oh Lucy & Sophie, I so feel your pain. Same thing happening here. Mom's been talking to Dad about enrolling me in school. She says it will make me a little gentleman and I'll learn how to properly greet humans & doggies. I thought jumping and sniffin butts was what I was suppose to do. Dad lets me do this all the time so why won't mom? Mom doesn't want me barking at the windows either. And she is always telling me to use my inside voice! What the heck is that?!? From all the repllies somethings going on and I think all us Doods need to stick together.

Rooney here - a down stay and then your mom left you?  She won't let you bark?  I'm thinking she needs some serious re-training.  I don't bark very much - I just don't care for it but when I see that yard worker guys in the back yard - I have to sound the warning.  Plus I do plan to bark VERY loud if I come across any evil hogs while out walking.  Why don't our people get it?

Rory here, I love my new home except my new brother doesn't bark at all WTD?  I've been trying my hardest to bark for both of us yet my mom doesn't seem too happy with my barking, geez.......what's a dood to do?  Today was good, I got a HUGE hug and lots of GOOD BOY'S when the big yellow bus came by and I didn't bark.  I don't know anything about down stays mom does it to my brother all the time, then she looks at me and says "you're going to school!"  What's school?

Moms are just untrainable sometimes.  We try so hard to teach them the importance of barking;  the importance of lunging while on-leash.  Don't they get it?  We are protecting! We are on guard! We are DOGS! Our mom even signed us up for official training and drug our dad into it.  They just learned a serious correction to remind us NOT to bark or lunge, but ha! we will just see about that!  We love them anyway, however it would be nice if they learned a few things, but I guess you can't teach and old mom new tricks....

Hi, Lucy and Sophie--Traveler here.  I really feel for you doods!  I bark outside the patio door when I want to come in or when I want my mom to come out and play.  She gets all crazy when she opens the door and I won't come inside.  WTD!!  I don't WANT to come inside then--I want to play!  She just doesn't get it, and sometimes even closes the curtain and makes me stay outside all by myself, even if I bark some more!!  How mean is THAT?  Same thing happens when I want to go outside.  I stand by the door for a while, then I whine a little bit.  Sometimes I want to go outside and sometimes I want to play.  I know she always come over to me when I stand by the door--otherwise she might just ignore me.  She just doesn't get it.  I'll keep track of this post so I can see what tips you get about teaching an old mom new tricks.  Good luck, Lucy and Sophie--I feel your pain!!

Hi, girls, JD here! I'm sorry your mom is being mean. My mom stopped playing ball in the yard with me, and she stopped taking me for night-time walks, too. She says it's because of Ice. Maybe Ice is making your mom crabby, too.

Murphy and Guinness have the right idea; the trick is to make the moms feel sorry for us! If I stare at my mom with a real sad expression long enough, she will sometimes stop what she's doing and play ball indoors with me. You should try it. Whimpering works pretty well, too.

And if you really have an urgent need to bark, you can do it outside. My mom doesn't come out to the fence to stop me anymore. I think that's because of Ice, too.
