If you have a male dog that was neutered before he left your breeder, does his red rocket ever make an appearance? This is no joke. I really need to know. I have someone that is concerned about "lipstick". So there is my question. If possible, I'd like a good amount of answers. This is important research people! :o) Thanks!
Oh April, funny you should mention this! But I like research, so I will make my findings public, even if this will embarass poor Murphy if he should ever read it. He has NO "lipstick", NO "red-rocket", Never, Nada, Not even a little bit. He just has a tiny little hairy "bump" that doesn't ever really change much in size, color or appearance in any way.
Our daughters doodle who wasn't neutered until he was about 18 months old has always had a VERY pronounced, Very hard to ignore RED "Lipstick". It makes it's appearance when he's excited about anything, even just playing catch. I don't care really, but am glad Murphy doesn't. It just seems more "polite" to not have to see it. ;o)
This will be an interesting post to follow.
Ok, here goes! My male ALD was neutered at 7 weeks and he just turned a year. He still squats to pee, has never marked or lifted his leg on anything and I have yet to see any "lipstick!"
April, this "Red Rocket" discussion may or may not give you lots of info for your "study", but it was one of the most entertaining discussions we've ever had here, and there were lots of responses on the subject:
I remember the discussion well! It should go down as one of the DK greats! I specifically need to know about early neutered dogs though. I'm wondering if less dogs "show" when they are neutered very young. 3-4 months seems to be when it makes a first appearance.
many many many ES&N's with only 1 report of a sighting of the redrocket. This boy lives with 2 other boys who were not ES&N'd and both of the others show their stuff often. We assume it is a learned behavior and wanting to show off after some heavy humping in the back yard with his brothers.
Again with many many many ES&N's done here no reports of it ever!
I can forward you a crack up email I got today from a client who an experienced dog handler and she said her dog has the smallest wiener she has ever seen! I had to ask why she was looking and of course the answer was- because she wanted to see how big it was! crack me up... this is for real!
I feel so ignorant right now... We got Darwin neutered at four months but I have never seen an appearance of said phenomenon. Not once... I didn't even know this happened until I read this thread...
