Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Hi everyone!  I am getting my Doodle pup on 2/13 and am so excited!  To distract myself from my excitement, I look at this site!  It doesn't help make me any less impatient to get the pup!

Anyway, those of you with GoldenDoodles and Labradoodles, do they like to chew as much as the retrievers themselves do?

I want to buy a few toys before we get the pup so I have them ready.  How I am going to teach a pup which toys are hers/his and which are my 16 month old's toys (since I am sure they'll all be scattered on the floor all the time) is a harder question!

Anyway, let me know if your doodles have some favorite toys or where I can find that discussion since I imagine it already exists.

Thanks!

Yes they are chew machines, especially when young. Mine like Kong baby teething things, they are softer than the hard adult red ones. And cardboard boxes they can shred. Shoes. I know we should teach not to chew shoes at all, but we have an old pair that is for them to chew on, and they seemed to learn quickly which shoe is OK and which ones get them in trouble. Rope toys.

Toby really likes the JW Pet Holl-EE Roller ball...with an Air Kong (squeaker) tennis ball inside of it.We have the large and the medium sizes. He pretty much likes all of the JW Pet squeaker toys, and so far they are the only toy that he has not been able to chew up!
Just a note on the Busy Buddy - My Labradoodle Hershey chewed straight through the nylabones on each ends, until I didn't want to give them to her anymore.... So I just use the little purple ball right now! It's a great size for her, and I shove treats into the ball like a Kong :o) It's big enough for her to crush with her jaw cause its flexible, but not small enough for her to start chewing off pieces.
Great point Erin.....Sadie chewed through a nylabone incredibly quickly too....like in minutes! I never bought another one!
Pippi loves the Hol-EE Roller--roll, toss, fetch, pull. We put a small babble ball inside and she is entertained for longer than any other toy.
Yeah, this is as I suspected! My Lab ate EVERYTHING (wood moulding on doors, linoleum, carpet, climbing gear, wooden cabinetry, more) for his first few years! He stopped around age 5 (yes, years!). Somehow everyone still loved him! But I am around much more these days so hopefully that will help.
Cooper (9 months) loves stuffingless toys. She can chew on them without us worrying about her eating the insides and she carries them around in her mouth all the time. And cuddles them during nap time. Check out skineeze, go dog toys and similar products
Darwin loves his Everlasting fun ball. He loves to fetch it for us, but we also stuff treats in it, and it holds them really well. It takes him even longer to get them out of this ball, than his Kong.

I second these green balls! Pretty much ANY treat dispensing toys were a hit in my house. Mine also liked the super tough Nylabones.
Sadie's favorite toy is this sweet dragon which we call "dino" since I thought it was a dino at first. This brand of toy has something they call "chew guard technology" and I believe it! She loves her toys-but is pretty tough on them....I have done a lot of re-stuffing and repairs....but this one really holds up! Also-the first year of her life she chewed everything- keep a supply of chewies handy.... still loves to chew, now usually for an hour or so before bed. We call her in a "bone zone" when she is chewing-I guess it is a very relaxing and soothing thing for her as she spaces completely out~ Here's a pic of dino!

I'm writing from my phone so can't link you...but if you search for the words: indestructible, chew, toy, toys (each separately) in the forum search box....you should find more suggestions too :)
I wish I had a suggestion about how puppy can distinguish between baby and puppy toys but my dogs were already grown when my baby arrived...so they have done no more than sniff baby's things (I was worried they would steal some). Perhaps if baby's toys are all of a certain kind and doggy's are diff. For example kid toys have a distinctive look and bones and treats don't look like most of them (whereas stuffies and bright squeekies could be either by looks).
We have two goldendoodles and they are very different. Daisy is coming up on two years. She's 35 lbs and has always been extremely gentle. The full extent of her destructiveness was to bite any sewed on eyes off of plush animals. Other than that she loved to cuddle with plush toys; steal socks--but never wreck them; play tug-of-war; and play hide 'n' seek or chase.
Maggie on the other hand is a super chewer. She is not quite 10 months and not quite 65 lbs. Toys that Daisy played with for a year----Maggie demolished in 20 minutes. She will chew up tennis balls; devour a rawhide chew is minutes. She will take one of those hard rubber toys designed to hide treats and "provide hours of stimulation" while your dog tries to extract the treats......and turn it into little bits of rubber in a couple hours. She shreds 2" thick braided, knotted rope toys.
The good news is we have always provided enough toys that they have never damaged any of our stuff in the house---though they have made some serious messes in the yard. I don't think you'll really know until you bring your puppy home.
