Went to a bbq at my son's yesterday.  We purposely kept Chewie in the house while the grandkids were eating on the deck.  The little ones are no match for Chewie trying to snatch food off their plates.  For some unknown reason, my 5 yo grandson opened the doorwall and placed his plate on the kitchen floor when he was done eating.  Naturally, Chewie was there in a flash and was chomping away on something before we noticed...couldn't have been more than a minute or so.  When we told him to drop it, he swallowed.  We suspected the only thing he would have had to chew would be corn cob, but it seemed like most/all of it was still there.

Fast forward to 4:30 this morning...vomitting yellowish liquid, 6:30 am vomitting more liquid and a little piece of corn cob.  I thought, great he got it up.  Nope, liquid vomitting continued once every hour or two.  Took him to the vet, x-rayed and saw a second chunk of suspected corn cob in his stomach.  They had me leave him to further induce vomitting with the hopes of retrieving it and hopefully avoiding stomach surgery.  Needless to say, I was a wreck!  They called me just 40 minutes after I left him...success...quite a decent size chunk of cob came up and repeat x-ray indicated that was all of it.  THANK GOODNESS!!!  They gave him another shot to stop the vomitting, are keeping him for a few hours and I can pick him up at 2:00.

This kind of excitement I can definitely do without!

Glad he's OK. I'm sure he'll enjoy going home after that ordeal. My friend's yellow lab had to have surgery to remove a corn cob a couple of years ago. She always has her nose to the ground, and at some point she had grabbed something and swallowed it without my friend even noticing (they walk off-leash at a park sometimes, so it's probably pretty easy to sneak something and not let mommy notice). When she started having problems, the vets first thought it might be a gall bladder issue. When they did surgery to deal with what they thought was strictly a gall bladder problem, they ended up finding the corn cob. She did have a gall bladder problem, too, but the corn cob was a surprise.
Oh my goodness. I am SO HAPPY he got the rest of that cob up. That could have been much, much worse. Sending doodle hugs your way - Chewie will be back to normal in no time. But I am sure you were worried sick. HUGS!
Poor Chewie! Glad he's on the road to recovery!
I swear we just don't have enough eyes to watch these Doods all the time. I'm so happy that this did not have to result in surgery. Poor Chewie....he must feel awful. Murph and Guinness send their love and hope for a quick recovery.
I'm glad Chewie won't have to have surgery, poor guy! Hope he feels better soon!
Poor baby, poor you! you need a glass of wine tonight!
Thank you everyone! Chewie is home. They saved the piece of corn cob to show me...it's at least 3 times the size of the piece he threw up at home. They want him on a bland diet for a week or so and have some meds to coat his tummy before he eats. They are guessing he is quite irritated...stomach and esophagus. He is acting okay, just seems very worn out. I'm sure he'll be much better after a good night's sleep...so will I. LOL.
So glad it is over and all is well. Isn't it amazing how quickly these things happen! Can't take your eyes off of them for a minute.
I am so sorry you both went through this! I am so happy to hear he was able to get rid of the cob without having surgery!

It is a good reminder especially for me because Charli is always looking for something to eat! Just like her Mom, she doesn't have to eat to be hungry. TG I have a cabinet that has a pull out trash can because she is tall enough to grab something in the trash can or even near the edge of the counter without having to stretch her neck!
I hope Chewie feels better soon, and I'm glad he got all off that corn cob out!
Poor Chewie!! We have been there and weren't so lucky (Dex needed surgery). I'm glad you were able to avoid it!
Chewie... I hope you feel better soon! What a day you have had....
