Home Baked Dog Biscuits

These are super easy and fun to make, especially with kids!

¾ cup hot water or meat juice
½ cup margarine
½ cup powdered milk
½ tsp salt
2 tsp sugar
1 egg beaten
3 cups whole-wheat flour

In a large bowl, pour hot water over margarine. Stir in powdered milk, salt, sugar and egg. Add flour bit by bit, mixing in well after each addition. Kneed 3-4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make very stiff dough. Pat or roll to ½ inch thickness and cut out with a cookie cutter or pizza cutter. Place on greased baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Allow to cool and dry out until hard.

* I had some left over cranberries in the fridge so added them to this batch

Oatmeal Apple Dog Cookies

4 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups old fashioned oatmeal
1 1/4 cups water
1/4 cup minced apple
3 tablespoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons vegetable oil: cold pressed
2 tablespoons honey
1 tablespoon ground cloves

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Place all ingredients in a large bowl. Mix thoroughly until combined to form dough. Roll out dough on floured surface to about 1/4 in. thick. If dough gets too dry, you can add some water. Use a bone shaped cookie cutter (or any other shape) to cut out cookies. Place cookies on ungreased foil-lined baking sheets. Bake 30-35 minutes. Makes about 5-6 dozen cookies.
These sound good for people, too.

Since dogs can't have raisins, I'd bet if you added Crasins to these, they would be like Oatmeal Raisin Cookies.

Yum, Janice.

Knead dough on a lightly floured surface for 3 minutes. Roll dough to 1/2 inch thickness, using more flour if needed and cut into desired shapes with a cookie cutter.
