I'm wondering how many of you WRAP your doodles presents?

I have been trying to teach Tara not to tear up paper for 2 years now and was concerned about sending her a mixed message if I allowed her to tear up the paper to unwrap her presents.  So I didn't wrap them even though I think it is really cute to watch them open their presents (always wrapped presents for former dogs).

So Tara received wrapped presents from BandyBear and I set them in front of her and she just looked at me. I couldn't bring myself to encourage her to rip into them because she truly believes it is something she isn't supposed to do.

Do you think it is confusing for them to be allowed to rip paper one or two days a year and then get reprimanded for it the rest of the year?  Will it "undo" former training?

Frannie I think you and Lisa have a future together providing a Doodle Gift Wrapping Service!! LOL!! I can just see the wrapping paper with little doodles on it...the bone shaped bows...think about it!!!

My big thing is color coordination, each person, being gets their own color, no need for tags.

Ricki, that is a great bit of advise (the leveraging of my gift wrap for a doodle puppy, since the season is over I may be able to work it so I still have some good supplies left - haha).

I have to admit you have taken present wrapping to the next level!! Wow! Quite ingenius really.   I think you could still work your method with the doodle wrap.  Each doodle would have its own wrapping paper color motif.  You'll have to work out the details with Frannie!! LOL!!

In the meantime I hope to hear the pitter patter of little doodle paws at your house REAL soon!! :)

Mine enjoy the unwrapping almost as much as the present itself! I gave them their presents so they were allowed to rip open the paper. Thats not the same thing as stealing paper and riping it up.

They are not allowed to steal food - but they are of course allowed to eat the food I give to them. Does that make any sense at all? Its been a long day =)

Yes, it does!!! It is similar to what Camilla was saying she does with Darwin. That he understands that it is okay to shred if they GIVE him something to shred. But he also knows that he is not to go looking for items to shred on his own.

They DO really enjoy the shredding!!! What are we missing?? Maybe I should try it some time!! LOL!!

We didn't wrap the gifts this year because Kirby has developed this fascination of paper the past year (he got a hold of my husband's birth certificate and shredded it a few months ago!!) and like you said I didn't want to encourage his habit :)
I like to use a gift bag with a bit of tissue over the toy.   They get to "open" a present but not tear something up.  I agree that I wouldn't want to encourage them ripping things up.
I wrapped every present for Thomas our goldendoodle!!  It's Christmas for  gosh sakes!!  Yes he likes to shred paper just like all doodles do....but we LOVE watching him sniff at his gift and try to ripp off the paper...he LOVES it!!  He promised me he wouldn't touch the other presents under the tree or rip paper ever ever again!! (Ya right!!)  It is the best part of Christmas watching him open his presents!!
It is really cute to watch them unwrap!! I still think I will at least try the bag idea first. Tara is trained very well to not shred. I can leave papers all over the floor and she will not touch them.  It is really nice and I am really hesitant to risk turning her into a full time shredder.  Well, her birthday is in December too so I guess I have a year to think about it!!
