Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I know there have been lots of discussions about how much work doodles are and how they take time and LOTS of training.  For many doodles, including ones I've bred that is true.  However, does anyone have a doodle that is pretty well behaved by nature?   ....House trained really fast, doesn't jump up much and is generally very eager to please?  Overall I think our doodles that live with us are this way.  Maybe I'm very tolerant, but it seems that others have to have a similar experience.  About four months ago I placed a pup in a guardian home with a family that had never owned a dog and has three kids (5, 7 & 10)  We talked at length and I prepared them for all the work a pup would be. Every time I check in with them (usually once a week)  they tell me how amazing she is and how easy she is. She house trained in a week, doesn't jump, rarely nips and stays out of the living room without putting gates up.  When I go to visit I see these things for myself, so I know their not just saying it to appease me.

My sister is another guardian home.  She had never owned a dog and did great!  This pup is bigger and did jump up some but overall she has a very easy going temperament and my sister always says that she's easier to raise then the cat. :o)

This last year we've raised two pups together that are from two different breeders and they have never been "bad."  Sure they had accidents sometimes and will get into food if it's left low but overall they are really very good!  Our golden retriever has eaten two pairs of glasses and tracks in mud like no tomorrow, so not all my dogs are good all the time. :o)  And yes, we do have our days!

Anyway, sorry to be so long.... I'm just wondering if anyone else has really good doodles?  I think of doodles as being very lovable, intuitive, smart and eager to please. (Even as pups.)   Am I nuts or do other DK-ers have dogs like this?

Thanks everyone for replying!!  I just knew there had to be some really good doodles out there! :o)
We think Neely is a great dog. He was easily trained within a few days, learned very quickly. He has a great nose and therefore plays hide and seek well. He loves to swim and boat with us. Loves being with us. Gets excited to see his friends the mailman and paperboy! Very Polite, barks only to say hi. Bows.....can I go on! Yes! But lets just say if he had better owners he would be the best dog in the world. He is only as good as his teachers sadly to say. He did already surpase us though. He doesn't steal snacks from anywear...I've been known to.
It all depends on the definition of good doesn't it?  I think my doodles are very good but they could use some more training. They do nothing bad but they do not always listen, most especially when the are excited about a visitor. But they never bite, were house trained with rare exceptions after a few months, don't steal my things except for Calla's recent taste for paper, which I attribute to her austerity diet. They never hurt a living soul except for the one squirrel, and I think that was probably euthanasia on their part since any squirrel that they could catch ust have been sick or very limited intellectually. Oh, and Luca did have me looking like an abused woman when he was about 5 months old but that really was due to my ignorance about puppy nipping. If we are going by good hearted and kind, never growl at your owner, let her stick her hand down your throat sort of good, then they are the very best!

I hereby give notice that I am going to steal this line! ROFL

Please add an m to must if you do. I think I'm the queen of typos.
I'm runnin' neck and neck with you since I got this new key board. Do you ever wish you'd listened to all those people who kept telling us to take typing in school?
I had a few months in middle school. jjj space etc. Lot of good it did, still hunt and peck! But I dictate reports and such, could even do that here but I might disturb sleeping dogs and you know what they say.
My Springer has performed a couple of good euthenastic deeds himself!  ROTFL
Our  Goldendoodle potty trained in 10 days and learned his commands at puppy training like an expert....but he nipped at us a lot.  That I can honestly say was his only problem. By the time he was 6 mths old...he was our perfect doggie.  Now at 2 yrs 3 mths old..he is such a good boy.  He is calm but playful, obedient, doesn't bark much unless there is something to really bark at and is the joy of our household.  He only jumps up when he is super excited which is a good thing because he is taller than I am when he stands on his rear legs and is 97 lbs.  Compared to my brothers two labs...I would definitely say he was an "easy doodle".
Gavin has been a dream boat.  I just can't imagine a dog with a better disposition.   And he is patient, never pushy, even when he really wants you to throw his his ball.  His behaviour is very good but we for sure need more training outside and with distractions.  But as had been mentioned before, we too have been super consistent with him from the get-go.

Our Sophie was so darn easy right from the minute I pulled her out of that chain link pen.  She jumped in the truck, with very little coaxing and rode with her head on my lap all the way home.  She was so calm and gentle while I bathed her and cut all the horrible mats out of her coat.  She licked my hands when I clipped her nails that first night. I was prepared for an uphill climb with a rescue dog but it was smooth sailing.  I know this sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm really not.  Her energy level matches ours.  She is so affectionate and lovable.  She wants attention but never demands it.  She jumps a little and nips occasionally when we play.  We're working on those things.  She still needs some practice on the leash. But even at the crowded car show she was gentle with everyone especially children.  Initially she didn't know what toys were but she is blossoming and loves her "as seen on TV" stuffingless fox.  I know I'm gushing but she's amazing.  We are in awe of how EASY she is - easy to take care of, easy to train and easy to love.  My vet says that many doodles she sees are wild and crazy  - she always comments on how sweet Sophie is.  When they put the scope in to check her ears, she just stood there so still.  I couldn't believe it really.  She's goofy and silly and the best dog ever.

Okay  April, If you're waiting to hear from me about how wonderful your little Murphy is, how easy he was to potty train, how he never chewed a sock, a shoe or a pair of underwear, how he hardly ever barks unless he is protecting his people, how he patiently lets me clean and medicate his ears after months and months of painful ear infections, how he heels on leash and never runs away from us, how every time he greets us he has to bring us one of his toys which is so darn cute and endearing, how he has tolerated Bella's constant jumping, nipping, butting in to his play time with unbelievable patience, then you don't have to wait any longer. Because he is all of those things and more. You did a great job making a great doggie.

I'll let you baste is the glow of knowing you have done a great job with Murphy, before I burst your bubble and tell you about your little she-devil Bella!!!!
