Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I know there have been lots of discussions about how much work doodles are and how they take time and LOTS of training. For many doodles, including ones I've bred that is true. However, does anyone have a doodle that is pretty well behaved by nature? ....House trained really fast, doesn't jump up much and is generally very eager to please? Overall I think our doodles that live with us are this way. Maybe I'm very tolerant, but it seems that others have to have a similar experience. About four months ago I placed a pup in a guardian home with a family that had never owned a dog and has three kids (5, 7 & 10) We talked at length and I prepared them for all the work a pup would be. Every time I check in with them (usually once a week) they tell me how amazing she is and how easy she is. She house trained in a week, doesn't jump, rarely nips and stays out of the living room without putting gates up. When I go to visit I see these things for myself, so I know their not just saying it to appease me.
My sister is another guardian home. She had never owned a dog and did great! This pup is bigger and did jump up some but overall she has a very easy going temperament and my sister always says that she's easier to raise then the cat. :o)
This last year we've raised two pups together that are from two different breeders and they have never been "bad." Sure they had accidents sometimes and will get into food if it's left low but overall they are really very good! Our golden retriever has eaten two pairs of glasses and tracks in mud like no tomorrow, so not all my dogs are good all the time. :o) And yes, we do have our days!
Anyway, sorry to be so long.... I'm just wondering if anyone else has really good doodles? I think of doodles as being very lovable, intuitive, smart and eager to please. (Even as pups.) Am I nuts or do other DK-ers have dogs like this?

I hereby give notice that I am going to steal this line! ROFL
Our Sophie was so darn easy right from the minute I pulled her out of that chain link pen. She jumped in the truck, with very little coaxing and rode with her head on my lap all the way home. She was so calm and gentle while I bathed her and cut all the horrible mats out of her coat. She licked my hands when I clipped her nails that first night. I was prepared for an uphill climb with a rescue dog but it was smooth sailing. I know this sounds like I'm exaggerating but I'm really not. Her energy level matches ours. She is so affectionate and lovable. She wants attention but never demands it. She jumps a little and nips occasionally when we play. We're working on those things. She still needs some practice on the leash. But even at the crowded car show she was gentle with everyone especially children. Initially she didn't know what toys were but she is blossoming and loves her "as seen on TV" stuffingless fox. I know I'm gushing but she's amazing. We are in awe of how EASY she is - easy to take care of, easy to train and easy to love. My vet says that many doodles she sees are wild and crazy - she always comments on how sweet Sophie is. When they put the scope in to check her ears, she just stood there so still. I couldn't believe it really. She's goofy and silly and the best dog ever.
Okay April, If you're waiting to hear from me about how wonderful your little Murphy is, how easy he was to potty train, how he never chewed a sock, a shoe or a pair of underwear, how he hardly ever barks unless he is protecting his people, how he patiently lets me clean and medicate his ears after months and months of painful ear infections, how he heels on leash and never runs away from us, how every time he greets us he has to bring us one of his toys which is so darn cute and endearing, how he has tolerated Bella's constant jumping, nipping, butting in to his play time with unbelievable patience, then you don't have to wait any longer. Because he is all of those things and more. You did a great job making a great doggie.
I'll let you baste is the glow of knowing you have done a great job with Murphy, before I burst your bubble and tell you about your little she-devil Bella!!!!
