My doodle, Brinkley is acting lethargic the last few hours.  He greeted me as normal (very energetic) when I got home from work but since then he's been sleeping out in our sunroom for hours. He threw up once today and it was yellow.  We gave him his normal ball that he'll play with for hours; today he played with it for about 2 minutes and then went back to sleep on the sofa in the sunroom.  My husband took him outside to see if he'd play as normal and he tore after a stick as normal but now he's back in on the sofa.  He's not one that eats all of his food and water fast but he also doesn't really seem interested in it at all.

I'm probably just an over worrisome doodle mom but I want to make sure there isn't anything I should be worried about in this scenario.  He went to doggie day care on Wednesday so he could either just be really tired b/c he'd played so hard mid week OR I worry he picked something up at day care.

What do you guys think?

Is he pooping normally?  I would listen to your gut.  If you feel something is wrong with him or he is "off" he likely is.  Just keep a good eye on him.  When my guy was sick, he took letharigic to a new level - lying on his side staring with "sightless eyes," unresponsive.  Hopefully it's just a little bug and will past fast.  Is there any possibility that he ate something that he was not supposed to?  If he is not drinking much, I would give him some ice cubes.  Even when my guy was really sick, he would take ice and it kept him hydrated.  Keep us posted.

Thanks!  I just gave him the ice-- he played with it which is good b.c it showed some of his normal energy and he ate one cube of it.  He just rang the bell to tell us he needs to go out so I'm hoping he'll poop.  We keep a really close eye on him as far as eating things he shouldn't and he really doesn't eat things he shouldn't anymore, so I don't think he ate something he shouldn't have had-- he's still a dog though so you never no but he more grabs things to make us chase him and then he'll drop it.  Like I said, who knows what he got his paws on at doggie day care.  This was the first time he went to this one and I'm not sure we'll go back to his one.

Thanks for the help-- I'll keep trying the ice.

I don't think you're being overly worrisome. When they vomit and then act lethargic, it's our jobs to notice, so you are doing a good job. My two will sometimes have an off day and I just watch it, but if they are peeing -pooping and eating and drinking I really just chaulk it up to an odd day. We know we get them. The day care could be fine and he just go overly excited being at a new day camp.  Let us all know how he is tomorrow?
I would rather be safe than sorry.  If he continues to vomit or act listless tomorrow I would call the vet and take him in.  Dogs can dehydrate very quickly and that is not good.  We all are over protective of our Doodles so we too would be running ours into see the vet!  Good luck and keep us posted on how Brinkley does.
I went through a similar thing yesterday. Ollie was acting like that all day. Slept a lot and didn't play like his usual self. When I took him outside, he didn't even have zoomies. He even threw up a lumpy/pulpy mass (sorry to be graphic). I was getting quite worried but since he was eating and drinking I decided to wait. He is back to his energetic self today and making up for yesterday's lost time...lol. Sometimes if it is a small thing they just sleep it off I guess. If I were you, I would take him in if he continues to be that way tomorrow or throws up again. Hope he is back to his usual self soon.
dogs have off days too. Id just keep an eye on him, make sure he drinks water and poops ok, if he doesnt, or if he continues to throw up then take him to the vet
Is Brinkley doing better this morning?

He seems less lethargic this morning.  He still doesn't really want to drink much but he's tearing up the ice cubes I'm giving him, so hopefully those are keeping him hydrated.  He also rang the bell to tell me he wanted to go on a walk so we went around the block.  We just stuck some cheese in his food and now he's eating some of his food and all of the cheese.  He still doesn't seem like he's totally back to normal but definitely better than last night.

I'll let you know if anything changes.  Thanks everyone!  You guys are great and it's nice to have when you need to bounce ideas off of others that understand.

Good news.  Likely it was just an off day.  You can also freeze some chicken or beef broth (salt free) or plain yogurt into ice cubes.  He should like that too.  Keep us posted.

The things I look out for are pooping and vomiting. If Welly throws up straight after a meal I know he has eaten something that's got blocked (usually a sock or knickers). Also if he's not pooping it's the same problem.

This makes him lethargic and I keep a close eye on him - making sure I note when it 'appears' at either end. Yew. This has happened on several occasions but he is growing out of his sock eating habit (he's now 3).

Hope your dood is feeling better now - but this kind of thing is always worth considering. It seems quite common in doodles!

Brinkley is doing a lot better!  He's still sleeping more than normal but he's playful now and he's eating and drinking.  He had some major diarrhea  this morning(sorry for the details) and I noticed an immediate change.  I guess he just had/has a belly ache.  Phew!
That is really great news....thanks for letting us know.
