I have been walking the dogs in the morning around 6 when it is "only" 80 degrees out.  We go anywhere from 2-3 miles.  DH has been working on a project outside of the house, so they are alone more during the day. I figure a nice walk helps them out!

But dood, Peri is so exhausted by the end, she literally comes inside, eats breakfast, drinks a bowl of water and then collapses on the hardwoods over an a/c vent.  Taquito goes off to the living room for his morning nap. They literally go back to sleep immediately.  During the walk though, they are super happy!

I guess it's the heat, right?  But 80 feels like 60 compared to our 100+ degree days we have been having!  I guess Peri is also just getting a little older and more mature now.  She doesn't have that crazy doodle energy like she used to!

What about your doods?  Do they walk this time of year (if you are in a hotter location like I am)?

It just has to hit 70 here for Rosco to look hard done by on our walks.  Admittedly we don't 'walk' too often, but when we do if it is 70+ I almost always end up with saliva sprinkles on my toes and have to do a double take (is it raining?) from his panting.  And when he comes in he too, flops down on the floor as if he'd just run a marathon.  Yet...strangely, he will ask to go outside JUST to lay in the sun a couple times a day.  Boca doesn't seem to mind but I have to make sure I don't let her fetch quite as often as she wants to on hotter days.
My Dh took the girls for a walk this morning at 6 and it was already 80 and humid.  They too come in and collapse.  I think they are used to it, but if not they better get used to it.  Arizona's weather is not going to change and I'm not moving.
As soon as it hits 20 Celsius here, Toby is done for.  It doesn't matter if his coat is shorter or longer, he's equally warm.  He spends a lot of time crashing on the ceramic tile, on the A.C. vent.  As soon as it cools off though, look out!  :)  He's ready for some play time in the yard.
Astro does not like the heat.  He is a HOT mess.  Try to squeeze in a mile after dinner but afraid it is going to kill him.  Pant, pant, pant.......
My guys hate the heat too.  They still get their walks as long as it's not over 90, but they also come home exhausted, and they're "done" for the day.
It's been hot here, and Halas' walks have definitely been shorter. We have to walk to a field behind our condos for Halas to do his business.  In most weather, he pees pretty quickly, and then we wander around for awhile looking for a good poopin' spot.  Once that business is done, we go further into the field and just walk around until I make him head back home.  But in this weather, he stops immediately when we get to the field to pee.  He walks around for another few seconds to find a poopin' spot.  Right after that, he starts heading back home.  If I try to get him to walk a little more, he'll just put the brakes on and stare at me until I start walking back towards home.  And even a short walk in this heat makes him just plop down when we get back inside.
DH left the house at 9:30 and took them out for a quick potty. He said they RAN back inside and went back to sleep! LOL!

I don't think Allie hates the heat so much - but she hates the sun. she will lay in the shade no matter how high the temp!

My doods HATE the heat!!! We too walk ours early when we can....but for the most part they just lounge around all day and have short quick little romps in the yard every so often.  They find the teeniest spot of shade to squeeze into also!

Just a side note too for everyone....be super careful about feeding the dogs AFTER they walk, run, or play in the heat.  Most people know that bloat can happen when the dog runs around right after eating....but it is also caused when they eat right after they exert themselves.  I lost a dog this way and the vet said many people don't know not to feed a dog after exercise.  (And of course they always WANT to eat right after it).  It's especially true when the dog is hot as well!  (Just thought I'd post that since it's been so terrible out lately!)

Thanks Lindsay-didn't know this for sure, but my husband asked this very question to me a couple days ago!
Darwin gets tuckered out SO easily in this heat. It's funny, we take him to dog parks on Sundays. When we take him to a regular park, he is exhausted in a matter of 20 minutes. When we take him to the park where he can get wet though? He will go for hours. It's all about staying cool I guess!

I have kind of given up on walks when it is this Hot.   I got a few in last week when it was a little cooler...But still too Hot for Trixie- or so she thinks.

She played outside with the Neighbors puppy today for 20 minutes...They really did not run around...Just ran in a small area & not fast.  We came inside to cool off & she could not find a cool spot...The tile wouldnt do.  behind the toilet wouldnt do & neither would the shower.    I showed her to lay down flat on the tile & 'r e l a x'...That seemd to finally help.

Not only is food not a good idea right after exercise (bloat)...Neither are Ice cubes.  I wait til she has rested before I give her any.

I will let her drink a little water after exercise...But I dont encourage her to drink it.  I try to let her rest before that also.
