I was just bringing groceries in for my mother and using the "Wait" command each time I opened the door to the garage so that Sunny wouldn't get out. I started to think about how often I use each of Sunny's commands, and the list in order of popularity is something like this:

1. Wait (she has to wait for me to go through doors and gates first, and I tell her to wait when I leave for work so she doesn't bolt out with me like she did when she was a puppy)

2. Sit (for a greeting, for food or a treat)

3. Leave it (usually referring to my other dog or my pet bearded dragons)

4. Walk Pretty

5. High Five

What does your list look like?

Hahaha, Ricki.  I have some special "hand signals" that I reserve for my DH too.
LOL!! Jane I'm not EVEN going to touch that one!!

ROFL

where is that "like" button!!!
I love using "body language" and try to stick with that.  Although I use a Pointed finger as "sit".....I would say "sit" is my most used verbal command.    He has to sit before his food dish is placed on the floor, sit before going outside, before coming inside, greeting people, or just to calm him down when he's getting "wound up".
My guys think "sit" is magic.  They know that they only get what they want if they're sitting, so now they do it all the time.  Then I have to figure out what it is that they want.
Sit, then Stay.

1. Sit

2. Get in ( to get in the heel position.)

3. Good ( to let her know she is doing what I want her to do and reward is coming.)

I think that's about it.....

LOL, Sandy!  Do you have a voice left at the end of the day?  I actually left out NO BITE.  We do say that A LOT.

Definitely OFF! To get my pup from jumping on me! I just saw Jennifer's reply after I wrote that--LOL!

"Wait" would be second and "sit" third. The there is "Quiet" for when they are barking at some very scary and very imaginary threat--we live in a very rural area, so the tiniest little thump can get them all running and barking.

Finally, "crate"--but only for the puppy since the others don't use the crate at all any more. "Leave it" is used a lot too, of course and "Play nice" and "go find it!" are used a lot too! That is a game I play with kibble--I throw a handful around the room and they go off to search for it.

Mattie, my little red doodle who is the smartest of the three, knows a lot of words--the others are better with hand signals. The funniest phrase she knows is "Look at the doggie on TV!" That will get her running to the TV to watch it and bark. It could be a bear or a hippo, but if it has four legs, she is usually very interested. The other two have no clue about what is on the TV and can't see the images, so they just look at her like she is nuts. I often wonder if she has more color vision than they do.

Sunny goes nuts if there's anything four-legged on TV too, but my other dog ignores it.

The funniest thing is that if the animal on TV runs out of the camera's view, Sunny keeps turning her head as if she expects it to run out the side of the TV!!

Sit, Down, Leave it, Touch, Wait
