Pine Sap

Does anyone have any suggestions of something safe to use to get pine sap out of Doodle fur? Maddie has some between her toes and it is so stiff, at first I thought it was a splinter of some sort. But it smells like pine and I can stick my finger nail into it so I think it is just hardened sap. She licks it a lot so I'm not sure what to use to remove it.

Try creamy peanut butter.  It removes gum.

If the PB doesn't work, you might read the bottle of "Goof Off" and see if can be used on hair and what the cautions are.  It does takes the tar off my car.

I have heard of using rubbing alcohol and also a product called De-Solv-It which is supposed to be non-toxic but I have no personal experience with it. When Tara got into sap I just cut it out. Do you have clippers? Could you shave or scissor between her pads?

Rooney got gum between his paws once as a baby - we just cut it out - if not my dh thinks that Lava soap might work but I have no clue.

SCISSORS!!!!  We just returned from camping and I tired the dogs out big time and spent quite a while cutting as much of the stupid stuff from between their pads as I could get.  They even had it other places and I just cut it off as I found it.  I didn't want to put anything on that had to be bathed off or attracted dirt.

Shortening. Yup, it even got roofing tar off my hair, hands, and under the fingernails (umm, don't ask how it got there - lol). Just scoop a little out of the can, work it into the gunk you want to remove, then wash it off.

Go-Jo hand cleaner works. You can find it in the automotive section of Walmart or at any auto parts store. Mechanics use it to remove grease, etc. and it's really quite gentle on your skin.

But then, Clark, do you have to clean the cleaner off?  Does it attract dirt like the sap does?
