Welcome, Mike, Cathy, and Sammy. I was told by my vet that they need to be removed at just a few days old, or in an emergency surgery situation at any older age...But you'll also find other discussions, here, about the positive reasons for Doodles to keep those dew claws ( agility training being one, if I remember correctly.)
Hi. When we got Cooper at 7 weeks old, he still had his dew claws and I asked our vet about removing them. He said that it wasn't really necessary since they weren't very prominant (like they are in some other breeds). He said that it was totally up to us and if we chose to do it, it could be done at the same time we had him neutered. We never had it done and Cooper is almost a year and a half old now. As far as I can tell, the only difference between Cooper and the dogs that don't have them anymore is that I have to two extra toe nails to clip when I clip the others. (We used to have a Choc. Lab that still had his dew claws and he never had any trouble with them either.)
Here is a link to a prior discussion on dew claws:

My opinion is not to remove them. But please check out the other discussion.
Mine all have theirs, my friends doodles have all theirs. I do know that Samantha loves to rub her face with them.
No problems here
