I'm not sure what the height and weight requirements are to be a mini versus a small for a goldendoodle. There are specific ones for ALDs - and the breeding of size is pretty true in ALDs. Rooney was supposed to be a mini and most people would call him that but it you really want to be technical I believe that he is ever so slightly over the line on his height. Goldendoodles, don't have a clue. I guess the question is does this make a difference to you as far as how you feel about your puppy? Mini, small, medium, large or extra-large - we love them all!
First let me say that she looks absolutely adorable in your picture! Our Bailey was I believe 11 Ibs at 10 weeks and she is now 16 months and 65 Ibs.. As you probably know already a goldendoodles size cannot be guaranteed however they are generally in between the mom and the dads size. If you say the dad was greater then knee height then she most likely will be too unless the mom is quite a bit smaller. Did you see both parents on site? I saw on your page that Molly is a F1 as well, and forgive me if i'm wrong but I do not think that they can even advertise an F1 as a mini due to the fact that one parent is full golden retriever, the smallest you probably would get I would say is medium size dog if the other parent is a small golden/poodle. No matter what size she will be, she sure is cute!
Molly is adorable!!
Probably not a mini, but she sure is cute!
I met a guy who bought a mini goldendoodle (from a notorious puppy mill which has since closed due to the death of the owner). His boy grew to be over 100lbs. I told him how impressed I was that he kept him anyway, as so many people would surrender the dog to the humane society. He was a fantastic dog too, so gentle, calm and well behaved.
many "breeders" (I use the term loosly as they often dont know what they are doing) say the pup will be a mini if its a pure bred golden or lab crossed with a mini poodle. Yes some may be mini, but alot will be much bigger. Its the luck of the draw with early generations.
I just checked Coopers vet records. she is a standard ALD (Australian labradoodle) and she was almost 17lbs at 10 weeks and now is 60lb and very tall and slim (Goldens tend to be chunkier and therefore weigh more)
Our Izzie was about 12 lbs at 9 weeks. She is three years old now and weighs about 55 lbs. She is adorable whatever she weighs as an adult.
Luna was 7.7 lb at 9 weeks and 12.4 lb at 12 weeks. As an adult she's now about 35 lb and is about knee height.
Her mom was quite a petite GR (probably under 60 lb) and her dad was less than knee height.
When a breeder advertises "Mini" F1 GD it usually refers to the fact that the golden (mom) is bred with a miniature poodle dad - doesn't guarantee that the offspring will be "mini" themselves. To have a better guarantee of size it would have to be an F1B (F1 mini x mini poodle), which should be closer to 20-25 pounds. A lot of breeders also use the term "mini" to give people the impression the dog will be small - but there is no guarantee of such with an F1.
That's ok - more to love :)
Sierra was one of the two tiny puppies of her litter. I also wanted a mini but was able to be on the wait list of a medium size litter....her parents were just sooo adorable and I ended up being able to get one of them. The breeder kept in mind I was hoping for a smaller dog and expected her to only get to about 20 pounds. But like you say....not so sure....she is growing so fast, overnight it seems. We go today for her first rabies and will find out what her 3 1/2 month weigh in will be...she was about 10 lbs two weeks ago. I don't know how accurate this is but the vet said I can expect her full size to be about double her four month weight. Regardless....big, little, huge, petite....she has my heart 100%.
I don't think she will be very mini. We were told that Chloe would be around 35 pounds grown, she is 28lbs and Myla was a runt and she is 18lbs at 4years old. It's hard to say really. I'm sure you will love her to death but you should really get what you thought you were getting as far as mini category and not small.
I did a survey once on DK and found almost no relationship between weight at 8 or 10 weeks and final size--my puppy was the smallest in his litter and at 1 year old, he is now the largest. Wait until 16 weeks, then double that weight--you will be within 4 or 5 pounds (+or-) of her final weight. But doubtful she is a mini by the definition you are using--that was false advertising.
I think my puppy weighed in at about 10 or 11 pounds at 8 weeks and is now only 37 pounds. He stopped growing sooner than other dogs--maybe that is what really determines size--how long they keep growing!
