Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Hi everyone.I posted a blog about my puppy being born June 19th and there were 11 puppies but only one dark rich caramel boy in the whole litter. That is what i wanted but i want so much more than just the right color.Temperament, size, energy level, ect, ect. There are a couple of chocolate boys but im afraid of his color fading over time.I love rich dark chocolate but only if it stays that color.Someone told me that if they are born a very dark almost black looking chocolate that they will hold that color there whole lives. Is this true? The mother doesnt carry the dilute gene.Im not sure about the father though. He is still very dark chocolate in color though.Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

Oh, thanks Bonnie....no argument from me!! :)
When I signed Owen up for training, they asked the color. I looked at him and wrote down "Strawberry Blond". The trainer died laughing! Well, that's what he looked like to me???
LOL!!! I love it! Strawberry blonde doodle. Hey, we are getting back to food names again! Getting close to dinner time here!
I've described JD as strawberry blonde many times!
Riley has faded but in a most glorious way, he has blond and creamy highlights so the dreaded fading has not turned out bad at all. People are always stopping to admire his color! My thoughts, if one of the chocolate puppies are more suitable re temperament than the caramel pup then go for it. One things for sure, if you aren't madly in love in two days and wouldn't swop your new puppy for all the tea in China I'll eat one of my (many) hats!!!
People stop to admire Chewie's color too. Many of them say they'd love to have their hair dyed this color. Some even asked for a SAMPLE of Chewie's fur! I told them you cannot cut it but I'll bring some next time (leftover from his dreaded coat change) LOL
Note: they don't notice the white bits in his fur yet - I doubt they want that on their head on purpose :)
Jared, just curious, but why is the possibility of a dog's coat fading a huge deal?
i love the faded colours as well as the deep chocolate. Actually, my favourite part of Cooper is her blonde nose (which she has always has)
First of all, Nicky, I LOVE your dare! My bet is on you to win it! :)
Jared - I do understand what you mean by paying a lot for a doodle and wanting it all. I felt the same way when I was looking for Bexter. I wanted the right size, coat color & fur type, sex, health, temperament...I wanted it ALL. I would sit and daydream about what my perfect little doodle would look like. Bexter actually is EXACTLY what I wanted...so I lucked out. I guess if I had any complaint (other than his obsession with socks and comforters), I would have loved for his hair to stay a deeper red like it was when he was younger, but it has faded some, but not too much. Having said all of that, no matter what happens, your doodle will be the one you were meant to get. Sometimes destiny surprises us and that is a very cool thing about being a parent of kids or doodles. I ALWAYS wanted a little girl, and that was not God's intent as I have two very healthy wonderful little boys. Looking back now, I wouldn't trade them for that girl for anything! I know I have what I'm meant to have. Go with temperament and you will get the doodle you are meant to be with forever! Good luck!
Heidi is such a beauty!
