Do you have a BIG puppy? UPDATE on Oscar's weight

I've been scouring DK trying to find progressive weights on puppies to estimate how big Oscar will ultimately get. So far, I haven't found a puppy that was the same weight as Oscar at his age. I was told by his breeder that he should get no heavier than 40 lbs, but at 11 weeks and 2 days he's a whopping 19.6 lbs! 2 days ago he was 18.6 lbs. At 10-1/2 weeks old Lucy, Oscar's 3 yr old sister, was 15.8 lbs, and she's now 53 lbs. Anyone have a similarly sized puppy as Oscar at about 11 weeks old? If so, how big is your puppy now?

 

UPDATE:

12 weeks, 1 day: 21.4 lbs.  12 wk pic:

13 weeks (3 months exactly): 23.2 lbs

14 weeks: 25.2 lbs

15 weeks: 27.8 lbs.

16 weeks: 29.4 lbs.

     Estimated mature weight: 29.4 lbs. x 2 = 58.8 lbs. + 5-10 lbs = 63.8 - 68.8 lbs

17 weeks: 31.4 lbs.

18 weeks: 33.4 lbs. (I swear, I'm not making this up! Oscar has been gaining EXACTLY 2 lbs. a week for the past 2 weeks... I weigh him on the same digital scale each week, so there's no inconsistency between different scales.)

19 weeks: 34.6 lbs. (Oscar had his neuter procedure this week)

20 weeks: 36.4 lbs.

21 weeks, 1 day: 39.2 lbs.

22 weeks, 1 day (5 mos.): 39.8 lbs.

23 weeks, 1 day (5 mos., 1 week): 43.9 lbs. (weighed on vet's scale)

1 yr old: 55 lbs  1 yr pic:

16 months: 59lbs, 24" tall at withers:

18 mos.: 62.6lbs.

19 mos.: 65 lbs.

22 mos.: 67.8 lbs.

I have an F2b Labradoodle, Boone. He weighed 22 lbs. at 13 weeks when I got him; 31 1/2 lbs. at 17 weeks; and a whopping 38 lbs. at 20 weeks. He is stout as he has the English Lab. in him instead of the American. I have a feeling he will easily reach 70 lbs. but I don't care if he is a giant 100 lbs. as he is the sweetest boy and sooooo easy.

Hi Patti,

I had to google 'F2b', as I was unfamiliar with the term. Oscar is considered a multi gen (F1b x F1b) labradoodle. He weighed 23.2 lbs at 13 weeks. His mother and father were 45 lbs and 55 lbs, respectively, so they weren't considered 'big' dogs. Oscar's size has been quite a surprise to us, as we were expecting a small standard. Its looking like he'll be an anomaly (he was the smallest male and as small as the smaller females from his litter). Its a lot to wrap our heads around. Like Boone, however, Oscar is very sweet and considerably more mellow than Lucy and, so far, with the exception of potty training (its taken about a month), has been very easy to train. He's always famished it seems and NEVER leaves any portion of his meals. He eats like its the last meal he'll ever get (meaning, very FAST). We love our big boy and it will be interesting to see how big he ultimately gets.

Patti, I just took a look at your page and saw your photos of Boone. He reminds me so much of Oscar in the way he looks (the color and those long ears!). Boone's coat looks a bit curlier than Oscar's, but they sure look similar otherwise. There was 1 pic of your son standing holding Boone (I believe he was 16-1/2wks), where he looks enormous. Out of curiosity, how tall is your son? Boone looks like a overgrown/oversize puppy in the pic. Oscar, although similar in weight progression as Boone thus far, doesn't look anywhere near as big in pics. Boone is adorable, BTW!

This has been Doc's progression:
8 wks= 11.2 lbs.
9 wks= 13.4 lbs.
10 wk= 15.6 lbs.
11 wk= 18.8 lbs.
14 wk= 26.5 lbs.
17 wk= 38.1 lbs.
We were told 55-65+ lbs by our breeder.. I think the PLUS was important! ;) We are thinking he will be 75-85 lbs at maturity!

Doc looks FULL GROWN in the picture! How old was he in the pic? He really will be a BIG guy, but man-oh-man is he a handsome fella! GORGEOUS! I wanted to add, too, that I just weighed Oscar and at 3 days shy of 14 weeks old, he's 24.4 lbs. Pretty sure Doc has Oscar beat!

Thanks Debb! Oooh but I'd bet Oscar wont be far behind Doc. He was 17 weeks in the pic, taken just a few days ago. I need to add that Oscar is one handsome dood too, I love the blonde guys!!!!!

I've been keeping track of Oscar's weight progression (see original discussion post with updates) and as of today at 15 weeks old, he's 27.8 lbs. Next week at the 16 week mark I can make the calculation to figure out his approximate adult weight (16 wk weight x 2 + 5 to 10 lbs). Given his weight progression thus far, its looking like Oscar will be 60-70 lbs at maturity. No 'big' surprise, really (forgive the pun!).

I think you're going to have a big one. Quincy at 16 weeks was 18lbs, he is now 65.

Wow, when I hear stories like Quincy's and his defying the odds (and throwing the calculation rule for weight at maturity out the window), it really makes me wonder.  Lucy was about 24lbs at 16 weeks and she's now 53-55lbs (at 3yrs old). She was one that held to the rule. I am certain Oscar will be bigger than Lucy, as he's so much bigger than she was at the same age, and his paws are almost as big as her's now. He has a huge appetite too (Lucy was, and is, a slow, picky eater), which makes me think he's growing at a fast rate. He's consistently gained about 2lbs a week (not a lot of fluctuating like some pups seem to do from week to week) for the past month or so. I really am beginning to think pups' bodies have their own agendas and every dog is different in how it grows.

It looks like my Gunner is right around Oscar's weight at 11 weeks. It's great having your weights to compare to. Here are his weights:

8 weeks: 11.3 lbs.

9 weeks: 14.7 lbs.

10 weeks: 17.2 lbs

11 weeks: 19.8 lbs.

I weighed him today (11 weeks 5 days) and he is 22.2 lbs.

Midas just turned 8 months and he is 75 pounds and is very lean! i cant remember what he weighed as a younger pup..i will try and find vet records! :)

We weighed Millie yesterday, and at 2 days shy of 10 weeks, she was 17 pounds!!! I think she may get larger than 50lbs.... but that's ok! We love her!
